Cracks in stone and mortal at window

OK I guess I assumed cracked blocks would be an issue. The plasterboard internally is cracked in the same place also.

Thank you Woody. Any comment on what you can see in them relating to the cracked stones and mortar? Thank you.

Cracks in stone and mortal at window

Hi, we bought a house a year ago or so but have just noticed cracked stones and mortar vertically by the window. The stones (which I assume are a reconstituted material) are cracked through. Basically its at the right of the lintel downwards. This is a side extension built a couple of years...

ADE Optima Compact Outside Siren won't turn off

Hi, its gone off for now. I can't find any unswitched fused boxes. The house is about 15 years old. Is it a possibility there's anything in the consumer unit? None of the switches are unlabelled except 1 which doesnt have a switch.

ADE Optima Compact Outside Siren won't turn off

Hi, it was raining before so could be an issue. The siren doesn't turn off after 20 mins as we had a power cut last week and it went on for an hour plus. The panel deffo needs a battery. Whats the safest way of disconnecting the whole alarm if I can't just do the box. Disconnect the panel from...

ADE Optima Compact Outside Siren won't turn off

Hi, The outside siren has just started for no apparent reason. I still have power. I enter the code but unfortunately it does nothing. What's the easiest way to stop the sound? Is the power fed from inside the panel? Unfortunately I don't have a ladder to get to the box.

    Combi v Heat Only Again

Hi, I checked the ferroli and noticed the smaller rating. I never mentioned an extension to the plumber. Is it over-specced?

    Combi v Heat Only Again

Thanks for the response. Just had a quote in for a Baxi Ecoblue 24. I'd assumed a powerflush was required for the warranty? Is this not the case?

    Combi v Heat Only Again

Hi, I've had a look through old threads but wanted a current thinking response. Current setup is classic heat only, cylinder in bathroom (Albion?), tank in loft. Boiler is a Ferroli Sigma 40-60 (everyone laughs yes) which came with the house. House is a 4 bed 15 year old classic modern...

Water based paints over oil based

Fair do's. The post you've pointed me to suggests using a primer after removing the sheen. Other posts have mentioned primer isn't required, so which is it? Also 300 grit paper. Elsewhere its been said 180.

Water based paints over oil based

Hi, Just moved house and thought I'd do all the skirts and frames. I'd like to do a really good job once if possible. All the woodwork looks like its oil based gloss, so if I was to go over it with a water based gloss or satin wood what is the best process? So, grade of sandpaper to...
