Thanks for your replies. The saddle that is mentioned, is it just cut out of a flat piece of lead and then formed over the ridge? I presume in my case the chase in the wall must be wide enough to take 2 thicknesses of lead for both saddle and flashing. I must get up and check.

Thanks for your replies guys. I tend to go along with the idea of a saw set. :idea: There are no markings anywhere on the handle or blade nor does it look home made. Any more ideas?

Here one for you tool experts! This was bought for me from my wife as a Xmas present. The antique shop said it was a 'saw sharpener' but I have my doubts. The slots are all the same depth but the width of them varies from 1mm to 3mm. Has anyone any ideas? I hope the photo has uploaded ok...
