Trimming a roller blind with a circular saw!

I didn't. The plastic inserts on my blind didn't seem to need it. It does not snag on them. At a pinch you could add a millimetre or so of spacer on the insert? i.

Trimming a roller blind with a circular saw!

I've just successfully done this. It resulted in a nice clean cut. It just needed one or two small stray frayed threads separating out afterwards. Nice and easy and I'd definitely do it the same way again. For reference: The blind was a blackout blind, with a sort of fabric-based plastic on an...

    Shower pulsing - problem resolved

Thanks to this thread, I've resolved a similar issue. It was the shower hose! The increased pressure was ballooning the shape of the plastic outer pipe near the head in such a way that it created a constriction elsewhere in the pipe, which eventually blocked the hose until the pump turned off...

    Puzzle time - spaghetti junction

Thanks. I'll leave the box as it is then. I don't know what the top left cables are for, they are 4 core and are connected to each other. They don't go to the consumer unit. They are just tucked in the box, I pulled them out the way to get a clear view of the wrongly wired connector block.

    Puzzle time - spaghetti junction

It's not a switchline, it's from the consumer unit, feeding the lighting circuit. I'm sure it's a mistake. All is working, and now the wires you expect to act as line and neutral are behaving as such. By the way, I found this (picture) on the same circuit! All screws were loose or broken. Yes...

    Puzzle time - spaghetti junction

Kudos prize to RandomGrinch, yes after unexpectedly measuring 230v on a neutral in the loft, the crossover was in the box as per photo. :)

    Puzzle time - spaghetti junction

While trying to find some unexpected voltages on a lightning circuit, I found this.... see picture. Does anyone else see the fault? I've fixed the immediate problem, but on a more serious note, is it worth re-doing this properly, and what would you suggest using? This is basically a sloppy...

How do I adjust these hinges?

Just a guess: is there a cover to remove? Pull the white middle bit out, you could stick a small screwdriver down the gap visible on your third photo.

Narrow drain pipe on conservatory gutter?

Hi On a conservatory gutter, with fixed height guttering (that should be flat, and I think that there is no way to adjust the height) there is a very slight incline going the wrong way for the single downpipe. This leaves about 10mm of standing water at the furthest point. Unfortunately there...

    Washing machine waste extension

For reference, this is not a non return valve. It is a straight connector with an air inlet valve. It is meant to be located at the highest point of the waste pipe and will allow air into the pipe instead of it siphoning water up out of the trap. I imagine that if you mount it on the floor then...

HW OFF in Y-plan system with additional relay?

Yes, I got it working now with new HW off wiring in place. I think that what had happened with the MPV was that since the system had been operating for years without it, the valve was a bit stiff. Removing the controller box and turning it with a spanner a few times loosened it. Thanks to...

HW OFF in Y-plan system with additional relay?

Ah, is that what the previous comment was about. I thought it was something more ingenious. No need for explanation then. Thanks. As it happens I've just managed to get it working, after a whole bunch of problems: broken room stat, no wire from HW-OFF to MPV (there was actually a spare wire...

HW OFF in Y-plan system with additional relay?

I think that I have the same issue. Would you mind explaining in more detail what you did? I didn't follow that properly. Thanks Ian

    Draught From Behind Kitchen Units

This sounds like a great idea for sealing up drafts where you cannot reach. We have a similar problem, which I had largely fixed with expanding foam into the gap between the floor and plasterboard. I had hoped to make sure that plenty of foam got between the floor and the breeze block wall...
