    new lawn advice

Sound advice from the installers. As soon as you start mowing, this will encourage root growth, however don't scalp it for a extra few weeks, and water well after mowing, even if it's rained on it. If poss try to keep kids off it for a few extra weeks.

    Snails

It's a U.K wide problem, thanks to warm and wet days and nights, perfect weather for slugs and snails. Buy the pellets with animal repellent impregnated in them, to give other wildlife a bad taste if they try to eat the dead slugs. A beer trap works well, if you can bring yourself around to...

    Liverwort Major problem

If you are going to use glyphosate, spray on a dry cloudy, windless day, early in the morning best, to avoid beneficial insects. It may be possible to use a weed wiper system if dealing with just a few weeds.

    greenfly

Do you not get much frost in winter to kill them off? You could prune the bush hard, and plant some companion plants like Marigolds, as a sacrificial plant, next to it, then spray the newly pruned bush, And hope they give it a mis this time around. Natural control only works well in a glass...

    Repairing Petrol-engined Strimmer

    victorian garden bench

Seems good value, but its aluminium and not cast iron, which they recon will last a few hundred years. Shop around at auctions for cast iron benches to refurbish, I got an cast iron ex-local park bench at auction, wood all rotted, but I replaced it, so well made it will out live me.

    safe pond for a school

IMHO I think your asking for trouble, we now live in a nanny society, fueled by greedily lawyers. I hope you have lots of insurance cover, as no matter what you build, if little Johnny falls in cos is dad said he can walk on water! his dad will think nothing of suing you :( Remember the...

    Outdoor Cleaner

This is one case of 'it doesn't do exactly what it says on the tin' :( Never used 'Armillotox' myself, but if cleaning slabs/drive is all you want without much scrubbing, then dilute some thin cheap bleach, avoid plants and grass if possible, brush on with broom, swill of with hose pipe, swill...

    Cheap decking boards?

There's currently massive competition for customers from decking suppliers, so shop around, but avoid J**son lot prices. I've seen decking advertised @ 79p per meter, and guess what it's total rubbish!

New Kids Playhouse requires a base ??

As andrew say's, it's best to use concrete. You can use more than one block per corner, if on a slope. The idea is to create mini piles in the ground, so the structure above won't shift in rain or heavy use.

New Kids Playhouse requires a base ??

You can use breeze blocks, instead of pads. Level the ground around where the blocks will go, ensure it's firm. If not, dig a hole and fill with hardcore etc, tramp down. Then find/borrow a long spirit level. concrete each block in turn, so each ends up level, do you get the idea! You can...

    Replacing patio slabs with turf

Got to agree with Thermo (not again!), you would have to put the butt in the loft to get enough pressure. Anything else and there would be no point to having underground watering, spraying each night with a hosepipe would be more efficient.

Did you know, there's more stars in the universe, than grains of sand on earth? Just a thought as you lay your slabs! :?

trellis for balcony - 'how to' advice needed

I too have made trellis to order from 'roofing batten'. Made up a small jig to space the squares out, then borrowed an nail gun to fasten them. It is allot of work, but the resulting trellis, will out live any shed bought 'matchwood quality' trellis.
