Older installation: RCD protecting oven circuit

It's not just the oven. It's also supplying the gas hob (via a hidden socket which I want to protect.) Also, oven = large metallic parts that you touch all the time...

Older installation: RCD protecting oven circuit

Understood. Perhaps replacing that MCB with RCBO is the way to go as replacing the whole CU with one of those modern ones with dual RCD might be overkill.

Older installation: RCD protecting oven circuit

It's both. A double oven (well, one and a half really) and the hob, which used to be ceramic. So you can see the necessity for 32A. The hob has since been replaced with a gas hob. Assuming it's the correct MCB (which I will check), why shouldn't I protect the circuit via the RCD? The trend is...

Older installation: RCD protecting oven circuit

Look, if you don't want to help, I understand that. But at least you could just ignore me.

Older installation: RCD protecting oven circuit

Well I'm used to European installations where everything is fed via RCD. The RCD is even placed before the main switch. It'll help me sleep better. AndyPRK, good point about moving the neutral of the circuit also. What problems am I likely to cause (apart from possible unwanted trips) ?

Older installation: RCD protecting oven circuit

Hi all, I have a 90s-built house where pretty much only the sockets are RCD-protected. I would like to move over the oven to the RCD-protected side. Just move the MCB from the red side to the green, and feed it from the RCD. CU by vsn posted 9 Oct 2019 at 6:06 PM This is a modern Neff oven...

That's because I found the answer myself. I posted it. You'd know it if you concentrated on reading instead of moaning.

backup battery for Honeywell ST9420. How long?

You could have looked it up, it would have taken you less time. But no, you wanted to whinge. If I was rude like you I would have told you what to do with your suggestion. But I'm nice, so I won't.

Did you have something helpful to contribute or did you just want to whinge? And what does WTF mean exactly?

backup battery for Honeywell ST9420. How long?

I bought a new programmer from Wickes. It had been sitting on the floor for two weeks. When I powered it up, the date/time were already set correctly. So I took the old one apart. I found that the battery is a Lithium CR2032 so the clock should be able to run without power for years.

backup battery for Honeywell ST9420. How long?

Hi guys, On a Honeywell ST9420, the programming is kept indefinitely in NVRAM, but the date/time is kept by a backup battery. I'm hoping someone can tell me how long the backup battery is supposed to keep the date/time for. Currently if power goes for 10 minutes, the date/time is ok...

    Honeywell Programmer

I've had this problem for a while and I've been waiting for some 'downtime' (e.g. warm weather) but yesterday it annoyed me so much that I swapped the battery on the spot. You need a Varta Mempac 3.6V. This is a rechargeable NiMH battery. The one in my programmer was 100mAh, but technology...

    Powering a 13A socket from a 30A supply

The problem with induction & ceramic hobs is that the surface is made of glass. Which is the reason the ceramic hob is being replaced in the first place (a bowl got dropped on it and it broke...)

    Powering a 13A socket from a 30A supply

Thanks, that's a good idea. I was thinking of preparing the socket long before the gas guys arrived, but it may have to be done this way. The gas guys already said "we're not electricians" so it would probably be up to me to disconnect the existing hob anyway.

    Powering a 13A socket from a 30A supply

Hi all, In preparation for installing a new gas hob (using a standard plug with a 3A fuse) I need a 13A socket under the worktop. There is currently a ceramic hob in its place, powered by (what I believe to be) a 30A supply. I need to install the socket ready for the gas hob...
