You are missing a major point here though.... Putting voltages, resistances etc in a MI, what then stops the home owner (who most people will have or be capable of getting hold of a multimeter) trying to fix/diagnose their own boilers... Or after yourselves have diagnosed a PCB them checking to...

Most manufacturer's new range of boilers have extremely good fault diagnosis built into the user interface's listing various fault codes indicating what is going off and also...

Vaillants prices are so because they are built with best materials available. Can't comment too much on the other two as only dealt with the vaillant brand(maybe bias slightly) but never had any major problems what so ever with them. Might seem slightly expensive but they are an amazing boiler...

You don't get the L and N feed directly from the boiler for the thermostat. If you took the time to read the manual diagrams instead of slating the manual off you would clearly see that you take the L and N feed for the stat from the fuse spur and run a single switched live to the 230v control...
