fence post spike - stupid question alert!

Hi All, As the title says this may be a stupid question but I've got a garden arch which has 70mm x 70mm posts. I want to use a fence spike to secure it in the ground but can only find them in a 75mm x 75mm size? They've got the bolting mechanism to tighten but will that spike work...

    Issue with Shower tile

Hi All, I'm trying to cover up this lovely bit of plumbing (not mine!). Haven't a clue how to mask it, fill it, make it look better. Do I just slot a piece of tile in there? Fill it with filler or slot something over it? Any suggestions are much appreciated. Here's my pipe...

    New front door needs painting

Think you need to take a bit of chill pill there matey. If I could afford to pay a pro for every job I would but I can't, hence why I go on a forum for advice - your first post was helpful your second was not. I want my house to look nice and in a perfect world would have a grand designs...

    New front door needs painting

Thanks for the replies! Wish I could afford to get a pro decorator to do it - but after the door and paying a chippy to hang it, I've really only just got the money for the raw materials to paint it! As it's nice wood, someone's suggested staining it a nice colour, so I think I might give...

Hi All, Just installed a new heavy timber, hardwood front door. (I know, not the best time of year to do it but had to wait for the right door at the right price!). Now I've got to paint the thing and I'm ashamed to say I haven't a clue what to do! I don't think it's ready primed but...

    Setting sleepers

Thanks guys - will go the posts behind. just three more questions! - Is it right that I have to shift each sleeper about half an inch backwards so it's leaning into the slope? - Do I leave gaps in between the sleepers for drainage? - As well as fixing the sleepers to the posts...

    Setting sleepers

Doing a small retaining wall in the garden. Making it out of sleepers, set on their side. it's only 60cms high and I'm setting them about 5cm down in the ground. My only worry is whether their weight will be enough to secure it? Or do I need a few batons behind or some of those mega long...

    Knackered Portacabin

Hello All, I've got a knackered portacabin in my garden. When the previous occupants put it down they set it on grass so it's sunk to ground level over the years and is rotting away. It's ok in general but the door has come off it and various walls are peeling away their paint/vinyl...
