    No, tape should go on the threaded side to be screwed into the diverter, about 10-12 turns of tape. There is no need for ptfe to be used on the compression side of the fitting as its the olive that seals and not the threads.

    Are you applying ptfe to the right threads on the fitting? ie the threaded part the screws into the valve. The part where you have put ptfe is pointless and will have no effect, there should be an olive which seals by compression on that part of the fitting.
