More info:- FYI, the wall widths are 140mm each and the pillars are 300mm square and are adequate to support the RSJ. The RSJ is 203x203x46kg/m. The RSJ is only supporting the roof which is at the same horizontal span as the RSJ, the roof weight being no heavier than 700Kg.

I am placing an RSJ on two pillers, both pillars are in the middle of SINGLE SKIN walls. The length of the RSJ does not stretch from one wall end to the other but will easily sit on at least 160mm on each pillar...is that sufficient or does the RSJ need to stretch from one wall end to the other...

I will be putting a FLAT roof on a garage and am wondering what size joists to use. They will be spanning 2 lots of 3.5meters between the outer wall and the central beam (the total length will be around 7m). I am thinking of using 6" x 2" but just want to ensure that they do not sag after a few...

Thanks Deluks, the wall has not yet gone up yet, I am just planning ahead, and I probably sound a bit paranoid, but I have heard so much about concrete bloks letting water through, that I don't want to take any chances...I still have not decided which sealer I am going to go for..... I know...

I have been informed about the dry-liner, StormDry, which is a cream to coat masonary to prevent damp. I was, however, shocked to learn that it costs £125 for 5L which covers approx 25 sq m!!!!! Does anyone know of a cheaper product??

I'm not sure I truly understand the DPC level. I'm building a garage. Should the DPC level be the same level throughout, ie inside floor and in the concrete wall? From what I have read, if this is the case then, the internal floor would also have to be 150mm about external ground level which...
