How to get at least 30min fire resistance in c1830 stud wall.

Thanks I was confused whether I needed both sides to have the board in order to get 30 mins on either side, so it's definitely only one side needs done to get 30mins on that side? I'll check with building standards, but best to go in with a bit of knowledge.

How to get at least 30min fire resistance in c1830 stud wall.

hi, I am renovating an old house which has a mixture of brick and timber stud walls with Lathe and plaster. Some day, I might like to do a loft conversion. To do this I'm pretty sure I'll need the stairwell to be a 'protected enclosure' will all walls having at least 30min fire resistance. In...

Bricks to use for repair of sandstone wall?

I'm replacing the kitchen in my old 1830's house and upon removing the existing units, discovered that there is a large hole in the brick wall. From what I can tell, the walls are constructed of two layers of sandstone with rubble between. This is an external wall. The hole is around 600 mm x...

how to cap off old lead waste?

Well I wouldn't want to quite rule out anyone using it ever again. Are you talking about filling it right up, or just at the join but some will fall down? I'll certainly keep this as an option

how to cap off old lead waste?

Yeah i probably shouldn't have have done this, although I do have the old lead pipe, I could cut some off to form a cover and solder this on (although i would need a professional in to do this). I don't think any other waste is connected to this, everything else goes directly to drains out the...

how to cap off old lead waste?

At this point I have to reveal I've already cut off the pipe. here's some pics though. The big pipe (probably about 4inches) looks like it might have a u-bend embedded in concrete where the lead pipe enters. Theres loads of dust so its difficult to say how the join's been made but it seems like...

how to cap off old lead waste?

Hi all, I have an old lead waste pipe running through my house. I'm moving the bathroom so it's no longer required. However I want to remove the pipe to use the void to carry new water and central heating pipes upstairs. The lead pipe is about 50mm diameter and goes into a massive waste pipe...

What pipe sizes for completely new hot and cold water system?

I don't think there's much possibility of upgrading the mains, it's a city centreish location so a bit tricky. There's 4 bedrooms, one main bathroom I'll want a mixer shower in, running off the combi, and another shower room where I was thinking Id have an electric shower, and a downstairs WC...

What pipe sizes for completely new hot and cold water system?

I'm renovating an old victorian 3 floor terraced house with the usual hellish mish-mash of pipework running in bizarre and ugly locations. I want to replace all that with new pipework while I have the floorboards up. My question is, what pipe sizes should I use for the different bits? The...

what is extra o-ring with tap connector for?

I've bought a couple of hep2o tap connector fittings, 1/2 inch female to 15 mm push fit. All very well, but in the packet there are two things, the fitting and an o-ring. It seems like there's already an oring in the fitting, so my question is, what is the other one for? I added a pic of...

How do i connect mixer shower inlets to Hep20 plastic pipework?

Thanks, and would hep20 1/2 inch to 15mm push fit do the same job, or does it have to be these then copper pipe then Hep20 push fit? Do I need any PTFE or anything like this?

How do i connect mixer shower inlets to Hep20 plastic pipework?

It'll be accessible from the side by removing the back of some shelves, but what would be the actual problem with plastic, is it the connection? I've never had any problem with Hep20 plastic fittings leaking, way more problems with copper compression fittings. If the connection, I can have a...

How do i connect mixer shower inlets to Hep20 plastic pipework?

Hello, I am fitting a new shower, this is a mixer shower run off a combi boiler and cold mains. The rest of the pipework (at least anywhere near the shower) is plastic Hep20 (fitted by myself). My problem is I don't know what kind of connection I need to attach the shower inlet to the plastic...

Floor levelling compound you can screw/nail into?

Doggitt, this sounds like it could be the best way, thanks for the tip, very helpful. I hadn't come across this method. The only downside would be new screw holes in the floorboards since the 'new' joist will be in a slightly different location, but I can probably live with this.
