    DNO Needed

Not really sure why I posted this, because I know the answer. well to the fuse pulling bit. The supply is from the street so it's not a private meter I would be interested though on if any DNO guys think the VIR cable in the trunking is an issue, the previous electrician did not think so...

Press switch, how do these work

Press switches that operate a staircase timer, How do these work. Is it a simple case of the switch closing the circuit which sends a live to the timer. so that brief closing energises the timer. Any wiring diagrams you may have handy would be appreciated Thanks

Fan controlled by light switch and Humidistat

Just give this a little nudge back up. Would be interested if anybody would care to comment on the relay drawings at the end of the post. Am i heading in the right direction. Thanks

Fan controlled by light switch and Humidistat

Thanks very much BAS I have drawn a picture of how I think they work (I need to see things visually to grasp them. Would this be correct I presume separate switched inputs to get full functionality So. No power = nothing Power to 1 would send on to 4 (NC) and would light lamp...

Fan controlled by light switch and Humidistat

I am still curious about how to wire a relay I bought one but can't understand how to wire it I have taken a few photos if somebody could let me know how they are wired , that would be great Just to recap Fan controlled by Humididtat Fan also controlled by light switch I plan to...

    Theoretical question

A current using piece of equipment only take the power it needs from the supply voltage. ( assuming not fault) So for example you had a light bulb. 100W It was feed from one 230 v supply it would take all the power it needed from that supply to work correctly So 100/230 = 0.4 A Now...

Fan controlled by light switch and Humidistat

Ah Yes of course, Bahh Going to have to work out how to wire a relay. Looked at some today but I dont know where to start If anyone would be so kind, how would you connect this all together so a relay would allow the fan to be controlled by the humidistat or light switch Thanks

Fan controlled by light switch and Humidistat

I have been thinking about this and have draw a little diagram. I wonder if I need a relay I think the switch lives may not be the issue after all The Humidistat has a live in and a live out The live out goes to live on the fan so when humidistat want to turn on it will send power to Live...

Fan controlled by light switch and Humidistat

Many thanks I really appreciate your help, but I think I will have to do some research into an idiot guides to relays I don't understand that at all, and don't know what a base is. I will look for wiring guides. Was I correct thought that 2 switch lives would mean that if the...

Fan controlled by light switch and Humidistat

Thanks that is really helpful. Could I just bother you for one last question. Could you suggest an appropriate relay. Many thanks

Thanks for the reply A relay, could you expand please as I don't know how these work.

Fan controlled by light switch and Humidistat

How would this work (Would it) Idea is for Humidistat (Manrose 1360) to control fan during the day Would like the fan to also come on when light is on Would you connect light switch to fan as usual and also connect Humidistat to fan as usual This would mean though that the fan...

    Few questions about shaver sockets

Many thanks for the reply. Im afraid I still don't really get it. If I am at zero potential and the secondary live is at 230 there is a potential difference. There is 230v potential difference between live and neutral on the secondary how is that achieved. when the earth reference has...

    Few questions about shaver sockets

Struggling to understand the safety aspect. I understand that the transformer separates the supply voltage from the secondary and removes the earth (tied to neutral?) But can I be a new earth for the current to want to flow too? What would happen if I dropped my shaver in a sink full...

    Combi Boiler

Thanks Its only a temporary measure for decorating. The new stat is a two wire model. Problem is they must be a junction box some where as the wires that enter the boiler do not match the wires that leave the stat. I guess i continuity test will sort them out.

    Combi Boiler

The room stat adds functionality by sensing the temp in a certain room and switching on or off. If the Boiler does not have that added switch, I presume you could still have heating by using the boilers controls. You use the boiler on off buttons or timer. If that switch was removed for...

    Combi Boiler

A Combi Boiler wired to a honeywell room stat for heating Boiler is a Vallient. Can the heating still function if I remove the stat. Can the stat be over ridden by the boiler? or does it need the switch live from the stat thanks

    Earthing conductor size

Bear in mind that the size of that earth cable is nothing to do with the consumer's installation nor does BS7671 apply to it. As has been said it is the DNO's so talk to them to get it replaced (though they are under no obligation to do so) I do understand that. So in this example with a...
