Press switch, how do these work

Press switches that operate a staircase timer,
How do these work.
Is it a simple case of the switch closing the circuit which sends a live to the timer. so that brief closing energises the timer.
Any wiring diagrams you may have handy would be appreciated

Basically, yes. The old mechanical sort relies on a slow-release spring to set the time. The newer ones are electronic and have a basic electronic timer on a chip in the back. There is/used to be a type that used a central control box to set the time, but I haven't seen them around very much.

Yep. And one of the first jobs I had to do on my own was replacing all the faulty ones in council flat stairwells.
