    I have a new light fitting I want to install in my dining room. It needs to fit flush with the ceiling, but only has two terminals (plus earth). The existing ceiling rose obviously has to be removed, but what should I do with the other wires which run to it? Is it ok to choc block them...

    I've just found this stuff on some of the joists in our victorian terrace. It looks like cobwebs but without any holes. And there is a black dust underneath some of it. There's not loads of it, and it doesn't smell of anything (eg mushrooms). There's no cracking on the timber and no evidence...

    Thanks for the replies. It doesnt look like the joists have been effected. A survey came and had a look and they've now been professionally treated. I'll have a go at chiselling out the worst sections and replacing with ply. Thanks.
