Constantly having to bleed rads + dirty water in new rads

I just found this post... https://community.screwfix.com/threads/sealed-system-drawing-air-in.126915/#post-1498675 I wonder if I could have this issue and air is being sucked in via the pump ... Or as someone else suggested on that thread - via the expansion vessel. (I am out of my depth talking...

Constantly having to bleed rads + dirty water in new rads

Not a big one - WB Greenstar 30Si Compact. The system then has 5 X 470mm x 1600mm double panel rads like this https://www.bestheating.com/milano-aruba-white-horizontal-designer-radiator-472mm-x-1600mm-double-panel-64465 , 2 X 635mm x 650mm single panel ones, 2 small towel rails in bathroom and...

Constantly having to bleed rads + dirty water in new rads

Thank you both. It would be difficult to bleed into a glass - they are "designer" rads and bleed valves are on top, with a little air escape hole pointing upwards. If I let water flow out of it, it would run down the side of the rad and make a mess. Do have a Mag filter fitted. Don't know if...

Constantly having to bleed rads + dirty water in new rads

We had renovations a few months ago (maisonette flat, 8 rads). Before that, 3 rads and boiler were new (3yo), the rest ancient. But all working fine - got very hot quickly, only occasional bleeding needed, water came out clean during bleeds. Now with 5 new rads added... I have to bleed every...

Replacing an old Status flat entry phone

Thanks a lot for the link sparkymarka, I've identified the model and sent them an inquiry about the cost of a replacement unit (it's a special order) and installation. And OwainDIYer - good point, that could be the case, although in the lease agreement it says we are in charge of everything...

Replacing an old Status flat entry phone

Hello, my entry phone has been destroyed by a builder stepping on it. It's a good time for a refresh anyway as it looked and sounded awful. The wiring looks incredibly complicated as I don't know anything about these things, so probably will need to call someone in. But what model would you...

How to renew phone cable in flat?

Yes, in fact broadband is the only thing I use my phone line for! Why, how does that affect things? I do like the idea of cutting the current manky cable right down and creating a new master socket just by the door - and then running a nice new ADSL cable somehow to the router (but haven't...

How to renew phone cable in flat?

If only.. the master socket is something that's screwed to wooden panelling that forms the side of the staircase (maisonette flat, late 60s build). It's not on the "outside wall" of the flat. But that is an idea - to shorten the cable in the flat and create a master socket just inside the front...

How to renew phone cable in flat?

The phone cable that enters my flat (from a locked cupboard down the communal hallway) runs along the ceiling of the hallway, then through a hole in my door frame, and along my ceiling etc to the master socket. It's caked in old gloss paint, really hideous. I'm renovating and want to replace...

    Covid vs Planned Renovation

Needless to say we very much did not go through with the renovation. The situation was changing so quickly that in a matter of days (and one week before the start date) we called it off indefinitely. Very sad that it doesn't look like it'll happen before the baby comes, or even this year. But it...

    Covid vs Planned Renovation

For now we are carrying on. Now that Number 10 clarified there was "zero prospect" of movement restrictions in London... The works will take 6 weeks max. Due to start week after next. Feels like we should be able to get it through. We won't be in much social contact. We'll live in another place...

    Covid vs Planned Renovation

Thanks woody. The plan was for us to rent a small flat / studio locally for the 5-6 weeks of the works (prices already seem to have fallen!), so there would be minimal contact with builders anyway. I'm more worried about further Italy/France-style movement lockdown, and suppliers not being able...

    Covid vs Planned Renovation

Sorry for yet another virus thread, but I have a specific question. We were getting quotes for our flat renovation when it was only kicking off in China, just now have chosen a builder (haven't signed contract yet) - and yesterday the government tells us "no non-essential contact" and "work from...

12V halogen bulbs buzz and flicker with dimmer

Thanks again for the time to offer your advice, at least I've learned a bit about dimmer switches!

12V halogen bulbs buzz and flicker with dimmer

Hello, thought I'd give a final update! I bought the Varilight and had a different electrician in to install it - a much more thorough and competent one... It turned out that the light fitting itself was faulty. There was a contract being made between one of the cables leading from the...

12V halogen bulbs buzz and flicker with dimmer

The dimmer manual referred to "low voltage halogen bulbs". As the ones supplied are labelled as 12V bulbs I just assumed this referred to them, i.e. they required a drop in voltage from 240 to 12. I'm not an electrician obviously, not even a DIY one - but I don't think there's any danger of me...

12V halogen bulbs buzz and flicker with dimmer

I've inquired again with the manufacturer to specifically check this - waiting for a reply. But in their first reply they said the light works with a dimmer, and also there are customer reviews online of people using it with a dimmer, so I am hopeful...
