    Secondary circulation

Well I feel stupid. A case of over-complicating something that shouldn't be that difficult. It's all fitted and working well. Thank you both for your help.

    Secondary circulation

Hi, Has anybody had to fit a secondary circulation system? I can't seem to find a controller anywhere. I have a bronze pump but none of the usual suppliers can offer me a controller that can be programmed for short on/off settings. Perhaps there is something not related to plumbing...

Large bore hot water pipe manufacturers

Thanks for all your suggestions. The pre-insulated stuff may be a good idea if I can fit all that insulation in the service duct! Plenty of ideas to investigate.

Large bore hot water pipe manufacturers

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if either are suitable. It's running off a big multi so mains pressure and hot flow temp. Do you know of any industrial pipe suppliers who take small orders?

Large bore hot water pipe manufacturers

Sorry, clearly not a DIY post but hopefully more appropriate here than in 'Trade Talk'. I'm looking to take on a job running distribution pipework for a community heating project in a block of flats. (Quite a big project if I get it!) Does anyone know of a 2" plastic pipe for C/H and DHW...

    Closing off radiator valve..

You could try loosening off the locking nut but be VERY careful. Take two spanners and very gently loosen the nut below the valve head. Then crank the valve around and lock it back up. Like I say, be VERY careful as one false move and you'll have black C/H fluid all over your room.

    Internal door handle problem

First step is to give it a squirt of WD40. 9 times out of 10 it will free it up no problem.

    Elderly aquavac repair

Well, capacitor removed and it seems to work. Is it worth replacing? I don't want it to be any more temperamental than it already is!

    Elderly aquavac repair

Hi, I inherited this aquavac from the early eighties and it's come in very handy until it blew. I can't really afford to replace it although I can't afford to do without it either as much of my work is plumbing repairs. It seems to have gone because the fan was jammed by something. It...

Replacing Radiator with Heated Rail: What would you do?

Have you sized the output correctly? ie. get a rad schedule and make a guess at the existing rad´s output to make sure your new towel rail isn't too big/small. With plastic pipe and push fit fittings you will want to leave the fittings exposed. The rubber seals inside are only guaranteed...

    New build - adding gas?

Have a look at solid fuel boilers. You will need space to store the fuel, although it would only take up similar space as an oil tank. If you share the use between the old and new buildings there is a very lucrative 'renewable heat incentive' scheme that could pay back the installation costs...

changing toilet cistern help needed please

As long as the existing overflow discharges correctly then you can keep it. In short, you must be able to see the discharge and not risk water backing up to the pipe in any circumstance.

Accreditation, notifiable work & other legislative pitfa

To clarify: I am a trained plumber (not gas) and have various experience with other elements of construction. I am attempting to find independent work to supplement my subcontracting and have built a small customer base. I am marketing myself as maintenance only as this is the work I consider...

    Constant air in radiators

Either you have a leak somewhere, check for drips when the pump is not running. If not, the pump is drawing air from the vent pipe, the correct layout is in order of flow: vent, cold feed, pump. Alternatively, your f&e tank (the smaller one in the loft) is running dry. These are the most...

Where did you get your Boss scaffold tower?

I have a Loyal scaffold from http://www.laddersandscaffoldtowers.co.uk The price was good and they say it's compatible with BOSS although I haven't tried it yet. They sent it with a dented bar and replaced it quickly with no fuss (although as I was out they still haven't picked up the old...

Accreditation, notifiable work & other legislative pitfa

Hi, I'm about to start working for myself and wondered if you guys could help... I'm a plumber and have a good idea what I can and can't do without a competent persons scheme (it seems I can't join one until I've got 5 years under my belt) but I'm also doing a bit of general building...
