    Extending fence posts

Could you use a fence post extender, like these things?: http://www.farmac.co.uk/products/view/fencing-fence-fixings/timber-post-extender The website reckons it can extend the fence up by a metre which would cover your change I think.

Replacing Velux windows on my own - possible?

Thanks for your advice. Changing the frames is probably pushing my DIY ability a bit far, so I may ask the joiner that fitted my other windows to take a look at that for me.

Water butt in direct sunlight - will it smell?!

That's fine, I can cope with that. I imagine there will be some treatments available to put in it too, if it gets really bad.

Water butt in direct sunlight - will it smell?!

Well, that's good to know  Perhaps I could start a craze for empty water butts? Fill it in with concrete or something? ...back on topic, will it smell if it's filled with water and in sunlight?

Water butt in direct sunlight - will it smell?!

Hi, I'm looking at installing a water butt in my garden. My house faces due south and is a terrace. This means the only place I can install one is on a south facing wall, in direct sunlight. Is this likely to mean that it will start to smell as bacteria begins to develop? I was thinking of...

Replacing Velux windows on my own - possible?

I figured it would probably make more sense to replace the whole unit as I could then have the more modern, thicker glass and also UPVC coated frames. They aren't too pricey to replace, as long as I can do it myself :-)

Replacing Velux windows on my own - possible?

The frames are fine - just need painting. The glazing unit itself is not - the seals have gone, leading to condensation and mould appearing. I think the newer units have thicker glazing too, so it may keep more heat in. Thanks for your advice.

Replacing Velux windows on my own - possible?

Hi, My house has a few Velux windows that were fitted about 20 years ago and are now in a bad state of repair. I was thinking of replacing them with new units from Velux, and have established which ones I need. Should it be as simple as tilting the window all the back, lifting it out, and...

Painting woodwork next to stair carpet

Hi, I want to paint the woodwork that runs down the side of my staircase. The stair carpet is butted up to the wood, making it hard to paint without painting my carpet at the same time. What's the best trick to paint the woodwork in this situation, that hopefully doesn't involve lifting the...

Ideas pls - to make my muddy garden presentable on a budget

I completely agree you need to think about what is actually doable for you. Maybe a bit of initial investment will help to keep the garden low maintenance. You could get some new turf laid down but this may be redundant with a boxer and kids trampling the lawb. Perhaps some decking laid down...

Hi There, I would agree with all of the above really. Decking realy wold be the easier option. It's definately not as tough to get down! I think it looks nicer too!
