Hi I recently had a new combi gas boiler installed by a gas safe plumber, however I'm worried that the flue isn't in the right position. He originally talked about putting a vertical piece in but he went awol after installing the boiler and now isn't answering his phone etc. the valiant boiler...

    TV mount

Hi I'm looking to mount my 37 inch TV on a brick wall chimney (I've boarded up the fireplace etc). The TV weighs 17.5 kg. Will 5 10mm diameter coach screws that are 50mm long in plastic rawl plugs keep it there or do I need screws, bolts that are larger? thanks

    air vent

Hi I'm currently blocking up our old fireplace and was wondering what the minimum size vent is required. There are a million and one sizes in screwfix and so was wondering what was required. I would rather have a taller one than a wider one. Any help would be appreciated

    plug socket

Clearly a multimeter is required for me to do this safely, which is fair enough. Would it be possible for someone to tell me what tests need to be done and what results I should expect if the switch is on the ring main. Although I have used one before, it would be fair to say it's been awhile...

    plug socket

Thanks for your replies...I can't see anything that it is connected to. The switch doesn't seem to turn anything on. It is positioned where a fireplace was, so I wasn't sure whether it originally had a flex running from it to the fire?? I presume I can't do any damage to myself or the...

    plug socket

Quick query. I have recently moved into a new house. In the lounge there is a fused switch on the wall, which has two wires running into it down from the ceiling. I would like to swap the switch for a plug socket. Do I need to buy one of those screwdriver Mains testers to see if the switch is...

    floor tile issues

That's great thanks. One other question do I need to lay a damp proof membrane if laying the laminate on top of tiles on a concrete floor. I've found the underlay I want but it didn't have a membrane as part of it?

    floor tile issues

Hi not sure if this is the right place to post. I'm currently taking up my carpet to lay laminate flooring down. Unfortunately to do this I well need to take the carpet grippers up which are nailed down into floor tiles. The floor tiles are all chipped and will break if I take the carpet...

    Chimney vent

The unit is straight in front of the vent, but it won't be pushed right against it due to the skirting board. There well be at least a cm GDP between the unit and the wall ado the way round.

    Chimney vent

Hi quick question I have installed a vent in my bricked up chimney, however I'd like to place my TV unit in front of it. The unit would be about a cm away from the wall and has holes etc in where the cables go and is fairly open if you get my drift. There is also no TV on top as it's wall...

    wiring a led TV

Hi thank you so much for your advice, it's much appreciated. 2 more questions if that's ok. 1) if I wire the TV via the flex outlet plate would I be able to wire two more things from that plate, as I might want to plug in a webcam and a sound bar. I.e. fused switch, wire to flex outlet plate...

    wiring a led TV

Thanks for your reply. The wires I was going to connect to are two electrical cables running up and down to a socket which I presumed, but haven't tested, are part of the ring main. Ie 2 wires are connected into the socket. I've decided that I would like a switch which would be easily...

    wiring a led TV

If I chase electrical cable into a brick wall does it need to be placed in a metal or pvc tube, or can it just be placed in the channel and plastered over? Thanks

    wiring a led TV

Hi thanks for your reply. The issue in running a cable from the original socket is that I will have to chase it into a brick wall for about a metre which is a bit of a nuisance. Is this the only way, are my options unsafe at all? Thanks

    wiring a led TV

Hi I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice for wiring a new led TV. The TV will be on the wall and will only have about 20mm at the back. I currently have a Mains ring socket about a metre below where the TV will be placed. What I thought was I have two options. A) tap into the...

    compression joint removal

Hi quick query. I have a small leak in a pipe. The pipe is joined to a 90 degree compression elbow. My idea is to just unscrew the compression elbow, cut the pipe just before the hole and then reconnect the compression joint. The elbow can move as it's just connected to a isolation valve and a...

    New loft conversion

This sounds a bit more feasible. What sort of cost would it be if it is about 20metres square??
