    Linear actuator

I already have a home made bike lift which I use a trolly Jack to raise. It has an arm that swings down on a pivot and ratchets over blocks to stop the table falling in the event of a failure. This new table will employ the same system. But will be safer with a ram of some sort. The Chinese...

    Linear actuator

Thanks for the replys. So Is the common wire always neutral in all applications? Or do you need the wiring diagram to figure out which wire is the common? There are instructions but they are terrible and show no wiring at all. The limit switches or lack of shouldn't be a problem as the ram...

    Linear actuator

Thought this might be a good place to ask this. I'm building a scissor lift for my garage, capable of lifting 200kg ish. I bought a 24v hydraulic pump and was going to buy a ram and pendant remote. However I've just come across an electric linear actuator capable of lifting 300Kg. Its a gate...

    Solder not appearing at joint

I ended up doing the cap again, siphoned out the pipe and it looked much better. Did 2 pipes up to a wall radiator after and job satisfaction with copper pipe must be better than the plastic stuff. Great when you turn the water on and it dosnt pish out everywhere :)

    Solder not appearing at joint

The radiator has been permanently removed. Any tips for getting water out the pipe? Don't have access to a wet vac sadly.

    Solder not appearing at joint

It was completely dry on the outside, there was water in the pipe about 3 inches down on the inside. Would this have an effect?

    Solder not appearing at joint

Hi all, had to remove a radiator and fitted a cap to the end of the pipe. They were the type which contain a ring of solder and just require heating. On one pipe it worked perfect and you could see the solder out the edges of the cap. On the other pipe I heated it for a long time but no solder...

    Adding socket to consumer unit

Thanks John D for the great tips, knowledge and the time it took to reply. Much appreciated. I had just realised my mistake calling MCB RCD's and edited my post. At least now I have a little knowledge when I speak to an electrician.

    Adding socket to consumer unit

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I can just connect the live into the top of the current 'socket' MCD in the garage consumer unit? Just to clarify if I was to install another MCD in the garage consumer unit I could have another separate circuit for the new socket? Also do you guys have a...

    Adding socket to consumer unit

At the end of the day its pretty simple stuff eh. Like I said I'm learning, everyone including you had to at some point, I assume?

    Adding socket to consumer unit

Is it possible to add another RCD alongside the ones there currently? Sorry I have no experience with consumer units but trying to learn. Thanks

    Adding socket to consumer unit

Hi all, I'm building a work bench in the garage and would like to add some sockets to it. There is a separate small consumer unit in the garage and the bench just happens to be right underneath it. Can I just add another socket in from the bottom to the one already used for sockets? (circled)...

    Thermostat wiring help please

Thermostat works when timer kicks on. When timer kicks off thermostat power disappeared but when timer comes back on thermostat has stayed at the temperature I set it at and not reset. So this should work fine? Will see how it goes over the next couple of days.

    Thermostat wiring help please

Thanks husky. I have a flush box waiting, just didn't want to cut the plasterboard until I'd found out if this type of thermostat would work. Is there any way to find out if this will need a relay or just fit it and see what happens? By the 'wire link' do you just mean a scrap bit of wire...
