    Upstairs solid wall

The house is a privately built 3bed house and all dividing walls are brick upstairs. Does anyone have advice when it comes to lintels? And building control?

    Upstairs solid wall

Yes old doorway will be blocked up. Then the new door will be cut into the wall. Would the wall be load bearing if there is plasterboard in between top of the bricks and joist?

    Upstairs solid wall

Hi, I want to change the doorway for the bathroom 90deg round the same solid wall. In the loft I have located where this wall is to try and indenting whether it is load bearing. Where the door way is now the joists run perpendicular to the wall and the wall I want to move to has a...

    Where do I stand???

Just rang screwfix as couldn't find my receipt but managed to get invoice number and I bought it on 27th October 13. She said I would have to have it sent to dewalt for 5 days. Do I have any rights regarding the exchange there and then?

    Where do I stand???

I was hoping the 12month rule would apply but hopefully I will get a direct replacement as I need it for work. No definitely prematurely worn, I always grease the chisel bits and make sure it's clean etc. Will have to dig the receipt out and go to screwfix later

    Outhouse and garden sockets

Thanks for reply. There is just one cable coming from the db straight to the socket and that's it... The single socket on the house circuit is definitely not a spur and is part of the circuit. The outhouse is attached to the house and I would use swa to run down the side and in to the...

Power cable going into garage - how to protect it?

Options are, leave it and the dog will only do it once... Or I would personally run it through some steel conduit. Ps I am a dog lover so only joking ;)

    Outhouse and garden sockets

Ok so what the main goal is to get a double socket and a fused spur for some deck lights in the garden. What I currently have is an outhouse/conservatory which has one double socket which comes straight from the db but it is not a circuit. There is a single socket in the house ring in the...

    What causes this? Pimples?

You are correct, it's from moisture on the surface. Nothing to worry about and will flatten out.

    Rebuild party wall

Started a damp proofing job today. Hack off old render on party wall, drill and inject then render and skim. There's a section of the wall that was covered by wood cladding that's so damp the concrete bricks have actually crumbled away leaving couple of large areas where it goes straight in...

    Mixing internal render

Would using half a bag of cement and 2 bags of sand give a correct 4:1 mix. Or should it be gauged in a bucket etc. Always done it this way but just wanted to check. Also we all know 4:1 or 5:1 for internal but question is why? Some people say should be 3:1, would a stronger mix mean more...

    Replace TRV

Hmm thinking of hiring a freezing machine - think this might be safer option. Any experience with them?

    Replace TRV

Didn't see a shut off for the small tank but stopping the ball cock from dropping would be the same? There was some string as if it had been done before. So either shut supply to small tank or support ball cock then drain the system off from downstairs? Does it have to be a particular rad?

    Replace TRV

Ok maybe it isn't a combi. What would the process be so I can shut the water off to change the TRV?
  16. J

    Replace TRV

There is an immersion heater and what I thought was a combi. In the loft there is a big and small cold water tank.

    Replace TRV

Sorry I don't understand, at the minute don't I just need to stop the supply to the system then drain it right?

    Replace TRV

I couldn't find the stop cock when I was there and customer didn't know herself, but she now knows. So if I turn boiler off via fused spur then shut of mains water in to the house, this will work? Then drain the system

    Replace TRV

Well what started as an easy job is turning out to be the opposite. Working in a customers house in a bedroom plastering the room etc so taken the rad off and she's mentioned new TRV so thought yep easy enough, done a few now. So I was going to shut the water supply off to the combi boiler...

    Spalled bricks

Going to look at a job tomo where the bottom 3 or 4 courses of bricks have spalled. Been to house before and from the ground the first 3 or 4 bricks are painted then the rest of the bungalow is rendered with a bellcast. It is concrete slab or flags all around the perimeter. I think the...
