Right, wired it in. There wasn't a light connected, which is why I needed the advice. Unfortunately it seems to be a dud outlet. The light doesn't come on no matter how is wired in. Thanks for the help

Thanks very much for your reply, has no idea that wood bleach was a thing. Coincidentally, my other half does want a very dark stain, so I suppose it's taking a risk without bleaching or not.
