What wood do I use to do featheredge on a block wall? (Baton a block wall)

Hi, As per pic. We were going to render but I think doing batons and board may look nice. Any ideas what size wood to screw to the wall and at what intervals? I'll use 6ft boards. Thanks

How can I attach a handrail here please? Anchors?

Thanks. How many per post and I'd need to use long ones I assume. I could countersink the bolt heads as the fence posts will eventually be covered. I just need to be sure that if a child pushes against the posts when they're set up as a handrail, they won't come away from the wall.

How can I attach a handrail here please? Anchors?

Hi, Basically popping a rail on the side of the stairs in pic otherwise it's a nice drop. I'll use fence posts as the uprights and may hopefully get a couple of the lower ones into the ground and postcrete in. The one for the top corner may have to be attached only due to height. Can anyone...

Need to build steps...what's the best way?

Hi, I'm well into doing a retaining wall now (yes it looks shocking but I'll be cladding the face :) ) To the left there will be steps and I'm just wondering the best way to get this done. Would I stagger the sides of the wall and put some blocks on the fence side (mirroring the wall) to...

Do I need to use half bond for block work corners?

Ah ok thanks for the reply. I watched a YouTube vid and he called it half bond when he done 3/4 to 1/4 block for every other course. I'll stick with Lego bond seeing as my concrete blocks will be laid flat and it's not exactly holding back a mointain. Thanks!

Do I need to use half bond for block work corners?

Soon to be doing a retaining wall for the garden and will have a 10ft back with the sides coming down 5ft or so from the corners. Wondering if I have to use half bond or can I just build the corners like normal brick? Just like Lego. :) Then the only cuts would be at the ends. I've tried...

How do I test this extractor please?

For some reason we've had it turned off and it's no longer spinning up. Only used it a few times. It was wired to come on with the light but I also popped an isolation switch outside the room and had a spark wire it all up. I've got the multimeter. Just wondering what probe where and what...

Retaining wall ideas please? Rough cost?

That looks really good. I've been told I need the hollow blocks with rebar though I'm not sure if I have to if the footings are good. Only other issue is that I can't dig deep footings. The digger have got to very hard soil/chalk so digging a trench may be difficult. That's the block the...

Quoted £3800 for a concrete block wall...rip off?

Thanks for the reply. The 200 and something hollow concrete blocks with room for rebar look promising. Not too expensive either. Any ideas on foundations anyone? It's pretty firm, the 1.5t digger was fine on the base and it's a very chalky area. Thanks

Quoted £3800 for a concrete block wall...rip off?

Hi, Just quoted £3800 for a wall with footings from concrete block, 212mm thick or something similar? I've decided against this and will do it myself as it's just a retaining wall there just 'in case'. Couple of questions- I'm on very hard chalky soil, how deep should I do the footings...

    Suppliers of gabion baskets?

Thanks for replies. The chalk isn't even going to move, we're just being cautious. It's all pretty solid. I'd still prefer sleepers but it'll work out too expensive. 20160925_183603 by matt84 posted 25 Sep 2016 at 6:48 PM
