Repairing cracks in bricks from historical settlement

Hi I couldn't upload a pic, but in terms of appearance, this is pretty close, tho not as severe: http://authenticmasonry.hubpages.com/hub/Common-problems-with-a-Brick-Veneer Is it best to use sand/cement or a filler of another kind. My concern is that the finish should be good.

Repairing cracks in bricks from historical settlement

Perhaps my question is long winded, the simple question is: is it possible to repair cracks that run through bricks to a neat standard and paint over without t looking a mess? Ir is this not usually done? cheers

Repairing cracks in bricks from historical settlement

Hi - I live in a period 1870s mid-terrace and am thinking of selling. But there are some unsightly cracks in the wall of the central passageway that separates my house from my neighbour. The cracks run straight through the bricks and mortar but haven;t changed in the 10 years i've been here...

15 degree shallow pitch roof dripping water onto gable end

Yes, overhangs a bit, but the tiles are flat like slates. The water kind of follows a path under the edge of them and down the bricks (capillary style?)

15 degree shallow pitch roof dripping water onto gable end

Hi, I'll try and get a photo to you. The roof is so shallow that the water runs off the side of the tiles and down the wall and doors, it certainly doesn't look normal. cheers

15 degree shallow pitch roof dripping water onto gable end

Hi all, We have a 15 degree roof on our kitchen extension, using sandtoft 20/20 tiles. When it rains some water drips off the gable end and down the bricks and over the patio doors. The builder says it wasn't in the architect plans to do anything about this. The architect says the builder...

neighbours gutter empties onto our hedge

You don't agree with PAFCBOY then? I can't go lobbing demands like that, I can't afford (nor do I want) and court case!

neighbours gutter empties onto our hedge

Sadly this sounds like you know what you're talking about! Oh dear. Can I just clarify - you don't agree with the other posters ideas? And the drain has to stay on our side? The problem is his solution is to extend the drain to further into our garden, which is daft. The (most probable)...

neighbours gutter empties onto our hedge

I've read that after a certain number of years, regardless of what laws or regulations were infringed at the time, the 'new' layout becomes normal - isn't this true?

neighbours gutter empties onto our hedge

Thanks However, what if this drainpipe really is say 30 years old and was done by someone else. Am i still entitled (legally speaking) to ask the present owner to move it back to his side? cheers :)

neighbours gutter empties onto our hedge

After cutting back our hedge, I can now see that my neighbour (or a previous resident - which is where the complication comes in) has routed their rear outhouse guttering drain straight into the our side of the fence behind the hedge. His outhouse guttering overhangs on to our side of the...

    builder's shoddy job on chimney?

is it typical to rebuild a chimney from a few bricks up rather from the very base next to the slates on the roof?

    builder's shoddy job on chimney?

No detailed quote, just an assurance that the dampness would stop. He was recommended and is not a cowboy as far as I could tell.

    builder's shoddy job on chimney?

Hi I just want to get some feedback on whether the work done on my chimney is indeed shoddy. I had a damp interior chimney brest and a builder diagnosed this as the chimney needing rebuilding. It is approximately 7 feet tall. after a lot of money and a lot of scaffolding the chimney is now...

Garden shed base - lay concrete directly on the grass?

This is a forum, people ask stupid questions because they join a forum to learn and understand stuff. Your's is a trolling remark... go nuts yourself

Garden shed base - lay concrete directly on the grass?

they dug down about 5 inches and did not use hardcore... laid straight on the soil. the house weighs a lot more than a wooden shed, so I was wondering why that is ok on its very small footprint of ground, but the base for a comparatively light shed on a very large area of footing needs such...
