    Unless there's been anything untoward on the walls that would need a stain blocker etc, just give them a wipe down and paint straight over. If the small cracks are in corners I normally use caulk and filler if they are on a flat surface.

    I use Leyland trade contract matt. Really good coverage, reasonable cost and nice finish. It goes on a little dirty looking but dries to an even brilliant white.

    Modern nitromors is absolutely terrible,if you go the paint stripper route I would recommend something much stronger. Last one I used was called starchem synstrip which was really good but that was on metal so would be best to check if its ok to use on wood.

    If it were me I would add the extra cut to keep the grouting pattern consistent. Especially as in your case the upper row of the mirror and the row below the mirror mean you end up with three courses looking identical on that wall. Cheers Ross.
