Thanks Jeff, but even if I lift the float valve but hand to the position which should stop water coming out, the water just continues to flow. I'm not sure if you can see from the photos, but the watering coming out into the plastic siphon sock... Anyone got any ideas? It's a torbeck...

Cheers pinenot, I already bought the metal wire so just used that. How do you think it's looking? I've got two air brick in the top left corner, the air bricks are slightly lower than the joists which is where the insulation is. Should I leave a gap infront of the air bricks? If so how...

They are about 4/6 inches deep the joists I think...
