Advice on fire doors cracking plaster

We had a loft conversion 2 years ago and as part of the regs we had to change all doors leading off the landing/hallway to fire doors. These are obviously much heavier than the original doors and we have 4 young kids who slam them at times. We now have huge cracks in the wall behind 2 of the...

    Inadequate insulation in loft conversion?

The small front dormers have cladding using our old roof tiles. The rear dormer is also tiles but new. The walls seem thin as all our windowsills are very shallow and you can't place anything on them due to it.

    Inadequate insulation in loft conversion?

Some photos of the work above. Normal plasterboard (not insulated) was placed on top and then skimmed.

    Inadequate insulation in loft conversion?

Yes we had plans and structural drawing but the builder kept complaining about them saying he had to change things and not to worry. The same builder did this with our friend's loft too even though they had their plans drawn up by a different person. We have a large flat roof dormer at the back...

    Inadequate insulation in loft conversion?

I have looked at these but there are so many. Any thoughts on which one you would recommend please? Also we thought a survey would give a written report from an independent source if we needed to take legal action against the builder for any issue. Maybe worth using our own gun first though.

    Inadequate insulation in loft conversion?

There is the original loft insulation and then he topped it up a little but I wouldn't say it's fantastic. I don't know if there are draughts under the floor as it's now covered with cloud 9 underlay and carpet. There are draughts but they feel higher up which is why we thought it was the...

    Inadequate insulation in loft conversion?

We had our loft converted a year ago and weren't that happy with the builder but had no reason to suspect an issue with insulation. The loft had planning and buildings regs and the building inspector signed off the insulation. Our first winter in there (it's a master bedroom for us) has been...

Stairs underlay - which cloud 9?

Just had new carpet fitted in loft and asked company to put cirrus in loft ( as better sound insulation) and connoisseur 8 on the stairs and landings. I realised after they were half done that they had put cirrus all the way. I pointed this out and the company was very apologetic, admitted their...

    New system boiler issues

Yes it was the main pipe into the meter. I called the gas safety number for when you smell gas. I initially asked the installer and builder but they said it was in my head. However our dog started being sick and I was sure I could smell it so called the main number. They came out straight away...

    New system boiler issues

I would like to report them as I do have concerns. Right after initial installation we had a gas leak (which gas safe fixed) due to the installer spilling flux (sp?) on the pipes below. My only concern is will the installer know it was me who reported them? I have young children and don't want...

    New system boiler issues

The builder got a company in to do the boiler (his friends) and I've checked and the main guy is gas safe registered. When the installer finally returned my calls he questioned when boiler was done, were we sure it was related to the loft conversion etc and didn't want to come back. I explained...

    New system boiler issues

Our builder installed a new boiler (Vaillant Ecotec 630) 10 months ago. Previously we had the pressure drop after bleeding rads. For the last couple of weeks we've had the pressure drop every 3-4 days. We looked for a leak but nothing obvious. Then we happened to be outside when the boiler...

Squeaky bouncy loft floor - tips needed please

Reading your post I got to the part with 35 screws per sheet and gasped. We have 6 screws/nails on average per sheet! Probably not the right type of screw where it's a screw either. I'm guessing this fact explains a lot of the bounce feeling!

Squeaky bouncy loft floor - tips needed please

Yes it had a film on but he removed that before all issues were resolved rather than right at last minute. My brother (quantity surveyor) came over before the Egger was laid and thought the joists looked good and no issues at that point. The builder himself did very little and it was his guys...

Squeaky bouncy loft floor - tips needed please

Looked back at photos and this is the flooring https://www.travisperkins.co.uk/flooring-grade-chipboard/egger-peelclean-xtra-tongue-and-grooved-chipboard-flooring-22mm-x-2400mm-x-600mm/p/165363 Almost 100% they didn't glue it. They made mistakes with pipes etc and took it up and put back a few...

Squeaky bouncy loft floor - tips needed please

We've had ongoing issues with the builder that did our loft conversion. One of these is the strange tongue and groove floor he has put down. It feels sticky to the touch, squeaks a lot, has large gaps in some areas, damages VERY easily and is almost crumbly in some edges. He put something down...

Rads on when not supposed to be

Just spoke to original installer. He said it 100% isn't reverse circulation as they came out and altered pipework to ensure that didn't happen. I then mentioned the motorized valve test I had done and he said it could be a valve fault but then it's a wiring issue and not to do with him. The...

Rads on when not supposed to be

Yes I will have to contact the son as he made so many mistakes this wouldn't surprise me. I spoke to our friends who used him for their conversion at the same time and they said the son had caused them a problem with their underfloor heating coming on with hot water and he came back and changed...
