We had a loft conversion 2 years ago and as part of the regs we had to change all doors leading off the landing/hallway to fire doors. These are obviously much heavier than the original doors and we have 4 young kids who slam them at times.

We now have huge cracks in the wall behind 2 of the doors and one the plaster has dropped off. These walls were all replastered about 5 years ago and newly decorated after the loft conversion so this is quite annoying.

What would people suggest is the best way to deal with this? We want it to look nice but we aren't sure whether to fill or get a plasterer out to patch. We are also worried this will happen all over again.

Show pic to give people a better idea. Not knowing the type of crack you have, difficult to suggest a solution.

Make the walls sufficiently strong to resist the forces acting on them. Are they brick walls or stud walls?

The plaster will be cracking because the bricks behind are loose or cracked (plaster itself is extremely brittle and has no structural strength), or the frame is loose. You'll probably need to strip the plaster off to establish the cause and repair.

I want to say "Slam the kids, tell them the harder they slam the doors the harder you will slam them." :) :)
But the snowflakes will have a fit. :) :)

Luckily your parents didn't hate kids this much. I am curious of your reasoning. Is life so tough that your only relief is kids and cute little animals?

Jesus guys, it was a joke....
Obviously your not allowed to tell your kids not to slam a door closed any more.

If your young kids are slamming the doors now, just watch out when they're teenagers! What about some form of suitable door closers? Would have to be compatible with fire doors, but slowing the close might help?
