TV above working fireplace - definitive answer!

Thanks all - confirmed what I thought and, although it’s not in breach of regs, I’ll look for an attractive corner stand for it instead! Would have looked better to be wall mounted with cables hidden and there’s no other wall suitable but would rather the house didn’t burn down so corner it is!

TV above working fireplace - definitive answer!

Hi, I’ve read so many contradicting posts about this, I’m confused as to what’s actually allowed and what’s best practice. I have a chimney breast above an open fireplace that we do still use. There’s a mantelpiece above it. My questions are is there anything in building regs that says you...

Idea needed for skirting round water pipe

Hi - does anyone have any suggestions about what to do with the situation in the photo below? After some building work, the incoming mains water pipe is now on show and is too deep to be cover by skirting. Not sure what to do/ how to cover it - especially without causing any condensation etc...

Shower pump on pipe with vent?

Thanks for all the replies. Yes - I’ve only got the one pump and it’s this one https://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/stuart-turner-showermate-universal-twin-shower-booster-pump-2-6-bar/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7qeny9m37wIVFIBQBh2WCAeREAQYAiABEgIb8PD_BwE Is that one ok to run the HW for house from as...

Shower pump on pipe with vent?

Hi - it's a double with both sides hooked up to the shower. They'd both still stay connected but the hot would be used twice as much so guessing that is not good? Might have to go for the separate pump solution.

Shower pump on pipe with vent?

Hi - thanks for the reply - that all makes sense to me. So the pipe leaving the top of the cylinder would only 'feed' the vent pipe into the tank? Pipes were changed with the building work but only 15mm copper for 15mm speedfit but run is increased a fair bit so I thought that would explain...

    How to fix beading

Hi - I've got an expansion gap of about 13mm between the edge of a newly laid parquet floor and the bi-fold windows. I've got some 18mm x 9 mm beading to cover this but I'm not sure how to fix it? If I nail it to the parquet (and fill the holes) I'm guessing it will prevent the floor being able...

Shower pump on pipe with vent?

Hi - this is a complicated setup but will try to explain... Hot water cylinder already has an Essex flange that I fitted which leads to a 2.6 bar Stuart Turner pump. This only feeds one shower at the moment - negative head but universal pump fitted. The rest of the hot water taps are supplied...

What does ‘injecting the floor’ mean?

So the floorer emailed back and said that’s exactly what he means but he prefers to use low-expanding foam (exact gap) instead of fix-a-floor as it fills bigger gaps easier. im guessing that’s ok? So have booked him in to repair

What does ‘injecting the floor’ mean?

Apologies Ken - I didn’t see your reply also. Thanks for that - sounds like it literally will be an injection but will ask him to confirm process before agreeing.

What does ‘injecting the floor’ mean?

Great - thanks for reply. Guessing they would fill small hole afterwards with bit of dowel or something and it would be nearly invisible? Will they always need to drill two holes for each area so the air can escape or is that not an issue? thanks again - feel reassured!

What does ‘injecting the floor’ mean?

Hi - I recently posted (https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/hollow-sound-on-newly-laid-parquet.562191/) about a couple of hollow sounding areas in a newly laid parquet floor. I’ve since called the floorer who laid it and he said it sounds like the boards have either lifted a little or the...

Fresh Levelling compound in contact with wood floor

I’ve just cut some of the parquet boards for a tile insert and when taking up the loose ends, some have pulled some of the levelling compound up with them (as per photo). not tricky to patch up with a bit of spare levelling compound but i think it will come into contact with the oak parquet a...

How to fix gap between door and lining

Thanks for the advice everyone. The door isn’t being painted white - only the lining - the door is being waxed as it’s a rustic type antiquey look so I’ve put a 6x46 strip wood on the catch side of the lining, filled and sanded it. The door needed a tiny bit planing off it to be perfect but...

How to fix gap between door and lining

Thanks for replies. It’ll all be gloss white so should be easy to hide a small extra strip. I agree with not reducing opening but I think a 6mm x 46mm piece of strip wood attached on closing side of lining would be best and I’ll try that. the catch does just about reach but only just so if you...

How to fix gap between door and lining

This is completely my fault but I’ve fitted a new internal door (it’s a solid pine, part-glazed door) but when I scribed it, I’ve set it up wrong and have taken about 4-5mm more off the sides than I should have (2.5mm more off each side). this is an issue as the latch only just catches the...

Hollow sound on newly laid parquet

Hi - I’ve recently had a new parquet floor laid in a dining room (22mm oak, t and g, planks are 230 x 70mm) it’s been done professionally and I’m finishing it off and doing the edging. The question I had is that it looks great but there are two noticeable areas where a couple of planks have a...

Parquet expansion gap next to bi-folds

Hi - I’ve got a house with original parquet floors in the hall and lounge (oak herringbone with a 2 plank border). I’m copying this flooring in a small new extension (solid oak parquet, T&G, 22mm thick) but have a question about the expansion gap. it’s easy to do around the walls as the...

Plaster on rising main causing issue

I’ve recently had my kitchen plastered (just a skim coat but thicker in places to fill some holes). The rising main has been exposed after knocking down a wall and the plasterer has plastered straight onto this (photo below). I have access to the other side of this wall which is where the...

What to use to fix 60kg+ column rad to wall

Yes really - I haven’t just made a random guess! it’s 109lbs empty. The link is here to the exact rad https://www.radiatoroutlet.co.uk/1800-x-470mm-white-vertical-traditional-3-column-radiator I’ve guessed about another 10kg for water but that bit is a guess. I think I’ll get a couple of feet...
