I wasn't relying on MIL's ideas.. was just irritated by her .. 'know it all' .. I've got a couple of quotes coming in - will attempt to get around 5.. maybe more. . I'm thinking that yes, possibly people lie.. and get paid to do work.. :)

How do TV extensions come in so cheap?

I meant on TV shows - like - 'love it or list it' .. or 'double your house for half the money'.. My MIL has decided that my extension will be about 50K.. I'm assuming the TV programmes have given her this idea.. Its a garage, utility and new living room - 4meters wide by mmmm 15meters...

How do TV extensions come in so cheap?

HI, I'm currently going through the building process slowly - and have been wondering how TV extensions are so much cheaper than the quotes we are getting.. how do we know when the quotes are realistic - I'm waiting on structural engineer specs then will be approaching builders...

notification or full plans.. for buildling control

I'm trying to get my head around this. My borough only provides one set of fees... is it just that notification is quicker? Or am I missing something?

    Your worst Electrical DIY Disasters!

actually symbols would be better than letters or colours.. so an earth for earth - an electric lightening bolt for live.. colours obviously confuse people.

Sliding doors - will they make opening larger?

120 cms that will give you 'kinky sex aid' turning circle.. or if the aids are pocket sized you could go smaller

Bi fold doors meeting at corner..

I guess I'm asking the difference between 2 sets of bi folds - with a 'corner post' and the steels for a 'moveable corner post'. The later will cost more as the steel needs to be cantilevered but 'how much' more. For an idea one wall is 4meters long (was thinking of having 3meter wide bi...

Bi fold doors meeting at corner..

I've done a little search but could not find anything.. I'm building an extension with bi-fold doors down two ends .. I saw this online and love the idea: But I'm not sure how much it would cost.. does anyone have a rough idea.. I'm assuming the steel might be very costly. thanks

Do I need PP to partition my house into two family divisons

IF there were a fire...and I was sleeping upstairs I don't see how the divide would put me at any level of danger... I'd still have 2 exit ways.. if my mum moved in - she'd be at no greater risk... surely it depends on fire exits which we can't see from the opening posters.. post. and how 'over...

Do I need PP to partition my house into two family divisons

We have a divide exactly as you describe to keep the heat in. Its been here longer than we have.. so I don't see how it would 'alert the council' to two families living in one house or alter council tax arrangements.. our last house had two kitchens (one up one down) it made no difference...

Emulsion on skirting and coving - how to correct ?

IME you wipe as you go - or paint over the coving skirting after.. I sometimes cut in to the bottom of coving.. once you sit down it look sfine, like its been underlined.. but you don't wan to paint on the front. for the future - babywipes are great at pulling off paint on coving where...

Painting 45 degree "lip" on ceiling above a wall

do you mean you want to paint a 'box' around the tv.. e.g. on the celling too.. I'd have thought you could 'mask' with frog tape and paint.. to get the angles right you'd need to measure and draw them on first - I saw a digital protractor thing on amazon for not much money the other day -...

How many complaints from neighbours can derail a PD 8m exten

my mum hand delivered a complaint about the extension being built next to hers - under neighbourhood consultation - nobody from the planning dept - got back to her - the building is being built now - and it blocks out loads of her light and view.. So I'm not overly convinced that the...

    Lawful development certificate

The current dining room sticks out 1 meter ish (I think its 1.10) . behind that is 'gate' and you can't see the kitchen protection. The extension is planned to come out 4 meters - so a lot wider - but - my semi - will then match the other half.. because currently is has a garage - 4meters...

    Lawful development certificate

Me again - having searched my local planning applications I've found this extension: So a ‘similar shaped house to mine – you are telling me this is L shaped – and the L is facing the high way – so does not fall under ‘permitted development’. BUT –the council have granted a...
