So something like 9v to energise the primary coil to close the contacts in the relay and the contacts in the relay being 240vac 5amp , is that how it works?
Ah right thank you - this is the new model then and this new model uses a replaceable 9v battery it makes sense now. my old timeguard switch didnt have a replaceable 9v battery in it ... so i presume it must have had a rechargeable one in it then, but the replacement ones these days have a...
Thats fascinating/like magic if thats the way it worked with a rechargeable battery inside , i mean how did it charge the battery in it without a neutral supply along with the live?
I have plenty of plug in digital timers in the house which have a battery in them , but the battery in them will...
Hi, i want to wire up a photocell switch to my outdoor lights but want to wire it up to the 5amp light switch in the hall. in the old days I had a handy Smiths Timeguard light switch , the size of a normal UK wall light switch and it had a photocell in it and then a timer up to 8hours (so turned...
first time i have had to replace a washer in this type toilet cistern. It all seems to be working fine , however as the cistern is filling up water is dripping out where I have arrowed as its filling , after its finished filling the water stop coming out of that place … should it do that though...
just coming back with an update to say all fixed now and central heating working now as it should. water getting to boiler now and radiators getting hot . I cut out the blocked multilayer pipe and the junction where the blockage was in and replaced it with copper pipe and compression...
I have syphoned/drained down F&E tank today and put some Sentinel x800 cleaner in the tank today. Going to leave it for 24hrs and see what it does. i have tried sucking it out with wet and dry vac both flow and return pipes , then I tried sticking garden hose with water to flush it through bot...
thanks yeah, I tried blowing down the pipe I disconnected of the pump inlet on the return pipe but not strong enough to move blockage . How would I fare connecting hose with mains water pressure to the boiler drain tap and reverse flushing the system that way? - i realise it will most probably...
Thanks - you are right , could more than likely be sludge. the water was pretty black and disgusting (but its bound to be years in boiler I suppose) header tank is clean apart from the usual brown sediment at bottom. not too bad though.
when i open 3bar PRV no water flows out as usual , just a...
Thank you for your replies and help. so just to confirm no problem with having the F&E cold water feed from the header tank going into the flow pipe of the boiler then? , it does not have to go/make more sense to have the feed going into the return of the boiler then no?
could i change the feed to this setup so the feed is on the return pipe to the boiler? - would that work? - if so could i keep the feed as 15mm or do i need a 3/4 (22mm) feed pipe there?
has 15mm pipe got more chance of blocking up than 22mm feed from header tank do you think . and the 15mm feed there is OK going into the flow of the boiler in the airing cupboard? - when I have looked at setups in my other houses we have lived in I am pretty sure the feed from the header tank...
thanks yes I have a 3bar PRV on our outside boiler on the flow. was going to fit an AAV for the same reason there because I use the PRV to vent it but I didnt do it there instead whilst the system was drained I fit the AAV in place of the radiator bleed valve on the flow pipe in the immersion...
our central heating pump is on the return in our system in the outdoor boiler unit (so it must be pushing the water in the flow direction rather than pull from the flow.
the cold feed from the loft header tank seems to go on the flow pipe from the boiler rather than the return pipe.
here is a...
trying to get rid of an air lock in our boiler after emptying central heating system and looked in the airing cupboard at this setup . the alarming thing I found was going up into loft at the F&E tank expecting to see the cold feed being a 22mm ... but its only (equivalent) of 15mm - I say...
oh , i just found this on the screwfix forum , shall have to havea read - mind you , still no good if our countrys reg prohibits over- sleeving though.

no, trust no-one , thats why i reckon electricians should not be just looking at colour and assuming everythings correct - how many times have you waited to turn out onto a road and someone puts their left indicator on in their car and they still carry on driving straight forward ... you just...
