    Good, found a local steel man. 127x76mm steel beam cheap enough :) Now the blocks are soft type so will need padstones or steel plates Which is best for my situation? Pros and cons of each? Padstones seem to start at 100mm wide, I assume I can just cut them down?

    it will be supporting 2mx3m thermolite type blocks , which are 3" thick and half inch sand cement plaster on both sides, no other loads. the lintel will be 2m long and of course needs to be only 75mm wide. I thought a catnic or such box lintel would be ample

    Going by what you have said i think the purlin is ok. You said your having new felt and battens, but not new tiles? Check what you put on the roof is not heavier

    Maybe the sheets were not stored correctly (the mould already on them)? I think he might be right , treat it and it will go. The sheets may not completely dry out until a prolonged dry spell.

    Hi desig, this might not help and probably too late but, is it possible to raise the pitch of the roof? This will eliminate your immediate problem and make sure you don't have future ones!

    ?.... got to be easier installing a secret gutter, its the proper way, sounds to me like it would use less lead and no lead on the tiles on show. (can even get it in plastic lengths heaven forbid)
