Fixing metal railings INTO coping stones

The copings fixed using standard mortar I presume that bit is down to the builders. Either end of the railing is built into the pier or bolted to the house, also the railings arent as tall as in the picture.

Fixing metal railings INTO coping stones

Thanks all, the coping is 5" deep so not even drilling half way and I have a jig to keep the drill vertical. As long as I mark up correctly and offer the railings up before hand it should be ok . . . .

Fixing metal railings INTO coping stones

Morning all I have made some metal railings that I am wanting to fix into the coping stones. I understand that traditionally once the railings were fitted into the holes that the holes would then be back filled with molten lead. I dont fancy messing about with molten lead. Apparently a resin...

    Damp / Water Stain

Hi all Last winter we had a few damp marks appear around the chimney breast at the top of the wall and coving in a first floor room. I have tried to seal it so I can paint over and have used Zissner BIN which didnt work and then Dulux Damp Seal Primer and Undercoat. Both have had a couple of...

Nice one thanks, I was too caught up trying to find an isolation valve to do the job rather than the straight forward option.

    3/8th to 15mm fitting

Hi all I have a 3/8th's compression fitting from a coffee machine that I need to connect to a 15mm pipe. There is a 15mm isolation valve in there at the moment but the only 15mm - 3/8ths isolation valve I have is a flat face on the 3/8ths side. Wasnt really game to try the fitting on a flat...

Cheers Terry I was wondering if that might be the case but plumbing is not my thing and the valves are behind a cupboard so didn't want to go raving it all out if it might be something else a bit more accessible. Thanks for the info

Victorian Chimney Breast not tied in

Thanks for the info oldbutnotdead, we put the lintel in as it just had a thin piece of metal in. The only reason we took the plaster off was because it had blown and a chunk came off when we took the old mdf mantel off. I am not overly worried about it but that is because I don't know enough...

Victorian Chimney Breast not tied in

Hahah yeah thanks for that and trust me I wish I hadn't. It's has stood for 170 years and hasn't fallen down yet although we do get some cracking in the plaster on the other side and on the floor above to but nothing major it just doesn't make sense why they would do the left hand side properly...

Victorian Chimney Breast not tied in

Evening, in the process of replacing an open fire with a wood burner and the plaster was stripped off the breast. We have found that the back wall of the fire doesn't look like it's tied in to the rest of the fire place and wall and the right hand side of the breast isn't tied in either. Any...

    Concrete Blocks vs Bricks

Hi Tom, thanks for the info, the concrete blocks will be round the back and underneath so they wont be seen at all. Someone had said that they werent suitable for outside use due to them taking on water and not doing well in the winter. The oven will take about an hour and a half to get up to...
