    Leak?

I think I know the answer to this but... Every 3 or 4 weeks my boiler doesn’t come on. The error message tells me that he water level is low. I top it up and it’s fine again. Combi boiler bye the way. I presume I have a leak somewhere. Is there an easy way to find a leak without ripping...

    No call for heat

Spot on. Good knowledge. Found the valve. Rewired and working fine. I think the valve still needs changing but I will get that done by a pro (hate draining the system etc). The family is warm now and can shower. @ianmcd thanks so much for your responses and advice.

    No call for heat

I was just about to ask an additional question on the control valve. The cable from the control valve (at least I presume it is) has been extended. The colours I have to work with are earth, brown, blue, black and black and white. Not standard. Given that I cant find where the valve is, is there...

    No call for heat

Ok, so that’s good. Are there any common faults to look at first especially as it sometimes gets the call and sometimes doesn’t?

    No call for heat

The boiler is a Vaillant Ecotec plus 824. 3 years old and recently serviced. It’s in an S-plan system. Controlled by a controller for the HW and a nest 2nd gen for the heat. Kitchen tap and downstairs loo tap runs from the Combi and the rest of the house pumped from the tap. I’ve noticed over...

Swapping 1 light socket for another.

One of the few listed on google matched. Must be lucky. :)

Swapping 1 light socket for another.

You are right. Seems I needed an intermediate switch.

Swapping 1 light socket for another.

Just decorated the hall so renewing light switches and sockets. The downstairs hall is a 2 switch controlling the downstairs lights and upstairs landing. The landing is a triple controlling downstairs, upstairs landing and loft. I've already swapped this with no bother. Like for like. The...

    Papering around 'decorative' external corners

Worked well although it took 2 tries. The overlap has to be away from the light though.

    Papering around 'decorative' external corners

Spot on. 1930s semi. I did as I said and it came out really good but that was cross lining so a short cut. Dreading doing the same with the top cover which will be a much longer cut and a pattern to mess up.

    Papering around 'decorative' external corners

I have this corner in the hall. Below the feature the wall is curved and above it is about a 60deg angle. I am pretty good at papering but not sure what cuts to do. I presume I cut vertically from the point of the feature to the ground, paper to wall and remove overlaps? Correct or is there a...

Convert MR16 to GU10, one at a time or all together?

Swapping over the lamp holders and removing the transformers is not a problem. I suppose what I am asking is can one room have both low voltage and 240v bulbs running at once or do I have to convert them all at the same time?

Convert MR16 to GU10, one at a time or all together?

My house is almost exclusively lit by MR16s and its time to switch over to GU10 LEDs. Can I convert each lamp individually as the MR16s blow or does it have to be done as a job lot? Each lamp has its own transformer. With thanks

    Nest thermostat

I just want to double check things before I install this. I have a Vaillant ecotec combi boiler (couldn't tell you which model). Its wired to a junction box in the hall cupboard. Off the junction box is a drayton heating and hot water timer. A separate 4 core wire goes to a honeywell...

    Vailant boiler thermostat/timer

Additional info: There is a junction box in the hall cupboard with the wires to the thermostat, control and power supply. I presume I chase these back to there and remove. The Vailant control plugs into the front of the boiler.

    Vailant boiler thermostat/timer

I have a Vailant boiler (has a pop off front to fit a thermostat/timer) that has a wired thermostat in the hall and a timer in the hall cupboard. The power supply is also in the hall cupboard. I want to fit a VAILLANT VRT350F WIRELESS PROGRAMMABLE ROOM THERMOSTAT. The unit itself seems to...

Combo boiler - 20 seconds hot then not

You have a wonderful way with words. But despite the general rudeness and sarcasm, thanks.
