How good do the walls need to be before tiling?

Hi Just removed most of the tiles around the bath, which was a much bigger job than expected! Those suckers werent moving! Anyway, the walls are wood of some kind and seem pretty decent. The only problem is, there are patches of grout/cement/adhesive type thing on the wall that is...

    Luke warm water from shower

So they guy I spoke to in the tech dept recommended taking out the cartridge and cleaning it as it could be clogged up with limescale. If that doesn't work then I could get a new cartridge for around £150. I don't know anything about plumbing or showers, but that seems quite a lot?

    Luke warm water from shower

They're closed for lunch, I'll try in a bit. The cartridge you mention, is that something that fits inside the valve? Is it something that can (easily?) be replaced? Or is it really a job for the pro's?

    Luke warm water from shower

Oh I see, I thought those things were just where it holds onto the wall.........I'm guessing they're pipes for hot and cold

    Luke warm water from shower

hmm, not sure. Half the length of the bath is surrounded by wall, if this makes any sense, so would be quite difficult to get to underneath the bath. Need to get my thinking cap on as to how to get to those pipes....... Sorry if this is a stupid question, but won't the same pipe providing...

    Luke warm water from shower

Hi I have a bath with a fixed shower head which is controlled with a thermostatic shower valve, and at the other end of the bath I have normal hot and cold taps. The water that comes out of the hot water tap is steaming and hot. The water that comes out of the fixed shower head is luke warm...

    Loose bannister hand rail

Hi Please help! I have a bannister thats working its way towards freedom. The part where the handrail meets the wall has become wobbly. There isn't that much give, but enough that the plaster on the wall has cracked and wants to fall away. There isn't a newel post where the handrail meets...

    Fixing a loose bannister

Hi Please help! Apologies if this is the wrong section for this question. I have a bannister thats working its way towards freedom. The part where the handrail meets the wall has become wobbly. There isn't that much give, but enough that the plaster on the wall has cracked and wants to...

Luke warm shower but boiling hot water!

Thanks Tony. If what you suspect is right, would you suggest just buying a new shower head unit thing or is it easy enough to repair (or at least pay a plumber to repair)? And forgive me, but whats a 'NON thermostatic shower'?

Luke warm shower but boiling hot water!

Its not an electric shower, I assume it's supplied from the combi. I guess then that the problem is with the shower head thing itself? Is this a common problem? Is it fixable?

Luke warm shower but boiling hot water!

Hi I have a Halstead Finest combi boiler which seems to be working fine. The radiators all get hot, and the water is all steaming hot too apart from at one end of the bath. Its a bit of an odd set up but there's a bath/shower mixer at one end of the bath and there's loads of boiling hot...

    Blocked drain.......I think?

Well the Dynorod bloke came. Looked into the main drain and there was a small build up of sewage in there. Looked at the drain out the back and said it was fine. I explained the situation to him and he doesn't understand how the lady downstairs would've known there was a blockage unless she...

    Blocked drain.......I think?

Sorry, what does that mean? ok, apologies for any confusion. Dynorod came initially, unblocked the drain at the front of the property and said they would need to get into the property so they could take a look at the drain at the back to determine what was causing the problem. I am...

    Blocked drain.......I think?

Sorry, by lady I meant the lady downstairs. She is not an expert but she said she got someone (have no idea who!) to unblock the drain who told her about this 1cm thing. Not sure how much I trust this or what they've done as there was no receipt, or even phone number. They haven't come yet...

    Blocked drain.......I think?

Semi, I've been thinking about this and I don't think I do understand! I assume the 'main drain' is the one at the front of the property, where the pipe goes from the property to the street. This is the drain that is filling up with sewage. If there was a block somewhere then shouldn't this...

    Blocked drain.......I think?

Thanks for the reply semi. What you've said all makes sense but it does contradict what the other guy said. If the pipes are blocked then surely the drain between the property and the road should be dry and not filling up with sewage? Doesn't this suggest that there isn't a blockage or am I...

    Blocked drain.......I think?

Hi Guys Am after some advice. I live in a 2nd floor flat and the lady below me has said the sewage is blocked (there are just 2 flats to the property). I think she said that when she flushes the toilet, the waste does flush properly but I can't be certain cos her English isn't very good...
