    No bypass valve...

Having checked the pump, it is indeed the correct way round, pushing water towards the mid point valve. As far as I know, the system has always had "issues" and all the thermostats, hot water and room have usually been only a very low temperature before we moved in. I am suspecting this was so...

    No bypass valve...

Taking a further look at the system, If I run the central heating, with just the bypass rad on, turned low but not off, we get significant gurgling in the pipework, and finally steam out of the combined cold feed and vent pipe. I took a contact temperature probe and measured the pipes coming...

    No bypass valve...

flameport, Thank you for the reply. I first thought that air may have been getting into the system through the open vent, hence the now combined feed and vent. That made no difference. What is rather odd, is if i put the pump on full speed (Grundflos usps-2) I don't seem to get this issue...

    Noisy HWC, Quiet CH

Hi there, We've got an odd problem with our boiler, making very aggressive gurgling noises on the hot water circuit when at temperature (Not at cold), similar to that of a boiling kettle, however all is fine if the central heating is switched on. Our boiler is an Potterton Suprima 30L...

    Radiator Tails...

Elkato531, Thank you for the rapid reply. To confirm, can I basically purchase any trv/lockshield kit and they will come with 1/2" tail threads? So something advertised as 15mm x 15mm would be suitable?

    Radiator Tails...

Hi, I've just bought a new vertical radiator to put in out kitchen, which requires a TRV/lockshield set to be purchased. The description for the radiator says 1/2" BSP inlet. Does this mean I need to find a TRV/lockshield that is 15mm (Our pipework size) by 1/2"? Or will a 15mm x 15mm set...

    Sink waste Thread Size

I'm installing a new sink in our kitchen, and am at the stage of installing the waste pipe work. The threads that connect the pipework to the sink waste, are they all the same size? I ask as p traps come in 32-38-40mm sizes. I am assuming this is just the connecting pipe OD size and doesn't...

What we will have, starting on the left: Sink Unit - > Freestanding Dishwasher -> Freestanding Washing Machine -> Deco Panel So the Deco panel will be used (along with a wall mounted batten) to hold the worktop that will span all of these white goods and the sink unit I am planning to mount...

Laminate Flooring in Kitchen. Expansion gaps

Hi there, As part of my kitchen refit we are leveling the floor with latex then putting laminate down. I understand the need for expansion gaps, which is why our skirting has been removed however I am uncertain what to do by the cover panel that holds the end of our work top up. It has the...

    Ikea kitchen suspension rail screw

Going slighlty of topic, but still with the rail... On my stud wall partition, the oven housing unit I'll be using will straddle a stud. The oven unit is the last unit on the run. This means that I'll have a section of rail that isn't tied down to the studwork of the wall. I'll be having a...

    Ikea kitchen suspension rail screw

Hi there, I'm in the process of fitting an ikea kitchen (we've had all our services modified to accomedate ikeas lake of service void) and am about to start fitting the rail systems. In the instructions it states that you shouldn't use counter sunk screws, and instead use either pan or flanged...

    Filling in hollow concrete walls

John D, Thanks for the reply. We won't be tilling unfortunately, so would you think a bit of plasterboard, possibly glued via grab adhesive, or with wooden battens behind it be strong enough? Best wishes Conoral11

    Filling in hollow concrete walls

Hi there, I'm having my house rewired, ready for a new kitchen to go in. During the process we have had some backboxes removed where sockets are being removed. During the original installation of these boxes, it appears that the installer has gone right through into the hollow of the blocks...

    Gutter Access

Hi there, I'm having difficulties with our gutter overflowing. We've been up a ladder and cleaned our section of it, however the neighbours' is blocked and not level. The land lady who owns the property next door is stubborn and useless. So I'm wanting to put our own down pipe in so we don't...

    Mirror Wardrobe Doors

Hello, I'm replacing some half height wooden doors in our spare bedroom, that allow access to the airing cupboard and separate wardrobe. When the property was built (1988) they decided not to fit doors that would allow easy access to the whole of the cupboard. I've removed the doors, frame...

    Noisy Cold Water Storage Tank
