Hi all, I am creating a old fashioned semaphore signal arm for a railway. Its made of Red western Cedar wood. The plan is to prime and paint it all over. Best way to join this wood

Actually I have seen a metal plate on the rear of some signal arms. As you can see on one end, the 'pivot' end is encased with the metal bracket, so the metal plate would be good for the other end.

Best way to join this wood

Hi and thanks. I do have a table saw yes. Also, I wasnt able to source any 250mm wide cedar. Max seems to be 200-220mm from about 15 places I tried. I keep reading about how wood glues are super strong, so hopefully the join will be good, but any help to make it stronger to make it last would...

Best way to join this wood

Hi all, I am recreating an old railway signal arm to replace a rotten one. Due to the size: Length 1700mm, width 250mm, thickness 18/19mm, I need to use two pieces of cedar. Joined at the 19mm edge (1700mm long) What would be the best way to join these together, taking into account the forces...

    Shortening brickwall

Thanks. Can the gate post be demolished in sections say a few brick layers, and rebuilt with those sections, or will it have to be take apart and rebuilt brick by brick?

    Shortening brickwall

Hi All, Im going to be widening the driveway, and also making the brickwall and pier shorter for wider vehicle access. Probably going to shorten it 2 brick lengths. What is the best way to achieve this? In terms of the pier, can I leave it in one piece and 'join' it to a short wall, or do I...

Can I keep the boiler on the whole duration so the hot water still works, or is it a must for a particular reason to...

    Installing PR on switched light

Hello, So I have a light in the porch, which is controlled by a switch in the hallway indoors. I want to put a PIR in the porch so the light comes on when I get home, and switches the light on so i can see the keyhole in the door!
