(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

DP thanks. Steelmasons..no I wouldn't work on someone's house/boiler unless it was an absolutely desperate situation..and it isn't. I have little or no experience with gas except that propane "wood-stove" I spoke off where over 20 years I've swapped out 2 or 3 TCs. I live in an area with no gas...

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

just an update for anyone interested. Came down south last night. Boiler not working due to no boiler pilot light. Went through the procedure (Baxi 552)..and the pilot light lit, stayed on when grey "button" was released, and fired up to heat the house/hw (we seem to back to cooler weather...

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

will probably ditch the gas fire when we decommission the boiler..it's a bit of lump in quite a small lounge.

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

thanks both. > agile..interesting re a new home for the boiler...any links to designs or pics? So a new flue up the existing stack..with mods at the top end of course. Does anyone do a B/F gas boiler? Any good makes of boiler..I've heard Worcester and Vaillant mentioned as being ok?

    Honeywell 3-way valve defective?

thanks agile..this morning I switched on HW "all day" for about 30 minutes ..no hw to the cylinder but the rads got nice and hot!..nice cos it's cool today. So the "ball" is presumably stuck across and blocking the HW port of the valve...it seems to be making a perfect seal!..As I said moving...

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

thanks FiremanT..hope it's just the thermo-couple. I won't do the job though I have replaced them in a propane "wood-stove". Will hopefully be able to get the guy who has serviced it for years (later today). Will see what he says post fix and service..but it may be time to think about a new...

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

thanks herts..not sure..not there right now & no paperwork to hand. 8 posts or so ago I posted a pic of the front end..lovely (!?)..maybe a 552 lurking behind there? I will report back next week when I am down there..if nothing else to help some other poor sod - mebbes!?

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

    >agas..hw is from immersion heater..heat if needed in lounge/kitchen-diner from gas fire in lounge - and elsewhere , if needed, from electrical appliances like fan heaters Thanks all..will try to get hold of the "usual guy" who knows the thing backwards after many years servicing it..and go from...

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

    >agas..thanks for your comment. What he said Sept 2014 was that it was fine at the moment but maybe be prepared a year or maybe 2 down the line to think about a replacement.. as there were signs of corrosion. on some side plate?. I was there back then (it's not always easy to be there with a 4...

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

just a thought..the gas fire apparently fires up no probs (she needs it this evening brrr)..are there 2 separate pilots lights..one for the fire front and one for the boiler? I think the B/boiler is a Baxi Bermuda 552..the front end is identical to this one that I found via Google:

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

thanks snes..you're right!..I'll be there for a fortnight with the wife. Good guys are in demand I know..will try to find out from Mil what's with the "normal" guy who has serviced this b/boiler for years..and go from there.

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

thanks hertsboilers..you are right..and I do hope it is that simple -you never know. I was just interested to know what sort of things would could cause the boiler pilot to go out? It's just that I think it must have been "in" for as long as I've known the house i.e. 15 years or more. MiL is...

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

thanks stardanny..of course you're right..should not have let 2015 Summer service slip by. We have a guy MiL has used for ages..think she (and we) forgot and I think maybe the guy may be unwell or something similar. Anyway will sort a service with a registered guy when down there next week. I...

(gas) back boiler doesn't come on for CH or HW

Jeez what a week..mother in laws boiler doesn't respond to controls all of a sudden - though the gas fire on the front-end works ok so a duff gas supply is not the problem seemingly? To be fair it is a Baxi Bermuda of about 30-40 years old..always serviced annually but not in 2015 apparently (&...

    Honeywell 3-way valve defective?

thanks again all, very kind. well I read Mr. Therms post and having crawled under the HW cylinder in the airing cupboard I find the lever is on manual. Mmm -so I move it back to auto..but its all a bit "floppy". I turned off the power to the 3-way and Horstman programmer..switched on again and...

    Honeywell 3-way valve defective?

will do what you say..we rarely use boiler from June to Mid Sept. so quite likely just a bit of exercise needed. Anything more I could do if usage doesn't fix the "leak" of HW to CH.

    Honeywell 3-way valve defective?

don't know why my first reply from yesterday evening was just replicated?..clicked reply & was just going to say thanks to the two extra posts (Mandate & Tony..one lives and learns). >Mandate, you say "valve must be sticky and not fully returning to the rest position (HW)" I see, and I am sure...
