RCD on Outside Water Proof Socket?

My outside water feature has an intermittent rcd tripping issue, which is a pain in that it trips my house sockets. If I replace the waterproof outside socket for one with it's own RCD, will this help.

    Earth Bonding Query

Some advice please. Recently installed a water softener and replaced most of the under sink pipework with plastic effectively isolating the remainder of the copper piping. There is an earth wire but I've noticed that the mains input pipe under the stopcock is not copper but some sort of black...

Steel coated insulated lean to garage roof

Have a lean to garage roof constructed with 50mm contoured steel panel as per the roofing sheet picture. The flashing to the house wall is a top edge flashing similar to the second picture. Until recently my garage has been water tight, however storms ciara and dennis seems to have changed that...

    What does this do?

Hi all, I pass a two storey block of maisonettes on my walk into town. Can't help wondering the reason for this heavy duty nylon rope hanging from a hole just below the DPC. It's been there for a couple of years and it intrigues me.

    Fitting New Shower Cartridge

My shower temperature control doesn't work properly and I think I need to change the cartridge. However, I cannot find isolating valves for either the hot or cold feeds. As I have a combination boiler, can I simply close the mains stopcock? Many thanks for any advice.

    Screed floor dust sealant.

My new extension is just about complete, but I understand that I need to leave the 70mm screed to dry out for around 12 weeks before laying an engineered wood floor. We would like to use the room in the interim but the bare screed is very dusty. Is there any way to temporarily cover or seal the...

    One Steel or two?

My builder is nearly ready for knock through from my house to my single storey extension. Structural engineer specified a steel RHS 2550 x 150x100x5 with a 250x8 flange to support the outer leaf. I am waiting for a quote for this and expect it to be expensive and more importantly very heavy. I...

    Ventilated Eaves?

Instead of the steel ridge and hip beams shown on the drawing we have on the advice of an SE constructed the roof with a 200 x 200 ring beam. Carpenter has also fitted the facia and the soffits, however the soffit is not ventilated. Is this likely to give me a problem with building control?

    Extension roof height.

My extension is well under way, almost to plate level. However, due to my structural engineer's recommendation to use a 200 mm timber ringbeam rather than steel ridge and hip as per the achitects drawing, the roof would end up 150mm higher than on the planning permission. Would this be likely to...

Extension wall close to retaining wall.

The wall of my extension will be approximately 120mm away from a 1.2 metre high retaining wall. Do we need to tank either the new or old wall or will the air space be sufficient? there will be an open gully along the base of the wall going into the rainwater drain.

Dismantling Conservatory. What can be salvaged?

Will be taking down my 20 year old conservatory at the weekend to make way for an extension. I have offered my neighbour any parts which are salvageable as he would like to build a conservatory. I wasn't involved in the construction and dont have a clue about how to go about taking it down...

SE-Crop-1 by Minatoar posted 27 Oct 2016 at 4:28 PMMy architect drew plans for my extension and proposed that the roof be constructed using steel hip beams and steel ridge beam, (see dotted line on drawing) and that I would need a structeral enginneer to specify the steels. I contacted an on...

    Structural Engineer?

Finally had planning approval and have submitted drawings to building control. My architect has obtained a quotation from a structural engineer in respect of a circa 2.6 meter steel beam which will be needed when my existing patio doors and a section of wall are removed. See section of drawing...

    Extension roof contruction

Rear single storey extension 3 x 4 meters has now had planning approved. My friend who is a ground worker will be building; foundations, footings and the block and brick work. I propose to have aluminium bi-fold doors and window fitted by a Smart Systems franchisee. This just leaves the tiled...

Structural integrity after removal of block built boiler cupboard.

Have had boiler replaced, resited elswhere and would like to remove the block built cupboard. I think that the cupboard was added after the property was built as the joist supported by the cupboard wall has plasterboard between the joist and blockwork. It appears that this joist supports the...
