Please can I get some advice. Scaffolding goes up today for new windows and roof repair, so I thought its a great time to clean up the front of the house. Its render and timber - looks like its masonry paint and gloss, but its all peeling badly. I was going to wire brush off the loose stuff...

Old Floor tiles - Quartz? Can I get replacements?

Plumber is there today, was worried he'd butcher the floor, but he's going to use a core drill in the corner, "should leave 100mm bore hole, nice and neat" - we'll see! Have ordered a set of burnishing pads from tile doctor (as I have a industrial floor buffer) to clean everything up and then...

Old Floor tiles - Quartz? Can I get replacements?

Hi, We have a washroom, toilet and boiler room which have these hard floor tiles. The house is a 1930's interwar, its not been renovated, so we presume the tile are original, but might have been added in later, probably no later than the 70's though as most of the house dates back way before...

Emulsion - white, Matt - whats the best?

ha ha, nothing, but paint seems to absorb in and look grubby after a while. No smokers in the house, but 3 multi-fuel stoves, so we do see a bit of soot in the air during the cold winter periods. Also, would rather have a solid, even ceiling, cant be doing with patchy work. What would you...

Emulsion - white, Matt - whats the best?

Hi, we have recently refurbured one of the bedrooms and are now moving on to decorating. I've used all different types of paint, from B&Q own, Crown, Dulux, Johnston (? from Screwfix), Wickes, some case good, some bad. I don't want to be re-painting the ceiling & walls every year or so, rather...

Cheers guys, that's what I'll do. Plaster is off already, gypsum patch was wet and loose, so took off the rest. We are fitting stoves with liners so will dry out inside and keep vented. Glad to be back! Rob

1930's chimney damp - hydroscopic salts - can I line with moisture board?

Hi all. Not been here for a few years, but glad to be back..... We have just moved to our new house, a 1930's cavity, half rendered red brick house. The chimney in the bedroom is wet, as is the dining room below. We are pretty sure its gyroscopic salts as the chimney has had a damp course...

Vokera Syntesi 35 DHW firing then cutting out

cheers Chris - I've unplugged the thermistor on the DHW and it produces an error on the control board, so I've ordered a new one (£6) to see if its malfunctioning. The pump and everything else seems to be fine so we'll see. Thanks for your advice Rob

Vokera Syntesi 35 DHW firing then cutting out

thanks for the reply! So a blocakge wouldn't cause the problem as it would be consistant throught the heat range? There's two thermistors - one on the main heat exchanger and one on the DHW heat exchanger manifold. As the heating is working fine would you expect it to be the DHW switch?

Vokera Syntesi 35 DHW firing then cutting out

Hi, have a Vokera Syntesi 35 which must be 18 months old. Its been running okay since we moved in although the DHW is not red hot and runs cold if you turn the tap/shower on too fast. Trouble now is the DHW won't run. It will fire up and then within 15 secs drop down to an idle burn (if that...

    Push fit plumbing

surely the OD is 15mm? I know that John Guest have a rubber o ring attached to the insert, Osam and Hep20 are steel, and made of a lot thinner material. Either way its best to keep to the same to avoid weeping, or worse, joints buried under expensive tiles! ;-(
