    Removing single course of blocks

Thanks Ken. I think I've got one of those around the house somewhere, I'll give it a go!

    Removing single course of blocks

Before we parted ways the builder had over shot the height of this new wall, so I need to take off the top course. Will I be ok to do this with a hammer and chisel, or should I purchase a mini grinder? Or is there a better way? Ta.

Socket Tester error only when shower is running

Evening. After testing every plug socket in the house and finding them all to be ok, I left the socket tester plugged in to a socket with the switch switched off. I didn't leave it plugged in intentionally, I'm just lazy. Days later, I'm in the kitchen and all of a sudden the socket tester...

    Unusual chimney covers

No plans to use it. In really bad weather we do get a bit of the black drip, but only a tiny bit and only in the heaviest of sideways rain. If it's safe to leave until next summer I might do that and concentrate my budget on the main chimney stack, which is a mess.

    Unusual chimney covers

Yep, "aftermarket" bodge job was my thinking. Sounds expensive :/ If I'm not planning on using the chimney, just want it solid and dry, what's the minimum fix you'd recommend. I've got a main chimney which needs the top rebuilt, recrowned, and potted, so need to cut costs :(

    Unusual chimney covers

My house had lots of weird stuff going on. This is a picture of the secondary chimney stack, what's with this weird triangular chimney cover? I can't find any info or similar designs online, anyone know what this type of arrangement would be called? I'm going to be doing some work on the primary...

Between the door frame and the block work, what is it called?

The whole house is concrete block. I do happen to have a couple of pictures to hand but I'll try to take a couple more detailed ones later. Front Door by TM1303 posted 21 Mar 2018 at 9:33 AM Concrete Step by TM1303 posted 21 Mar 2018 at 9:33 AM Note the weird concrete step under the frame on...

Not sure I follow you Tic, the existing frame will come out, a new frame of similar size will go in. Don't mean to be obtuse, but if you could explain it to meet like I'm stupid I would appreciate your time, ta.

Between the door frame and the block work, what is it called?

Ah yes, suddenly it starts to make more sense. In my head this "outer frame" was structural and the door frame was attached to it. Now I see, the architrave/casing sits on top of the door frame. Right, that makes my life easier. Thanks to you both :)

Between the door frame and the block work, what is it called?

Hello all, long time reader first time poster, so please be gentle with me :) I'm replacing my front door because it is awful, ugly, warped, and drafty. My house is old (cira 1918) and a bit weird. Take a look at the picture attached. Before I can hang my new door I need to replace the wooden...
