Putting up shelving for heavy stuff in the loft

They are horizontal and not in a W shape. Just straight lengths of 2x4 spanning across the width of the loft and attaching to roof rafters. Old ex-council house, build circa 1962.

Putting up shelving for heavy stuff in the loft

Why is the brickwork quality lower in the loft than elsewhere in the house? Am i correct to understand when things are hung onto the wall there is no load on loft joists/roof trusses? Thanks.

Putting up shelving for heavy stuff in the loft

Hi folks, I do understand loading loft floor is a no no, I already boarded up most of the loft and so probably am near the weight limit but could I put up shelves on the walls for really heavy stuff? Would that have the same effect on the house as putting shelves up on any other wall in the...

L-shaped shed - is it possible?

Hi PaulUszak, Thank you for your contribution again. As I understand pouring concrete floor would be most suitable. There isn't enough access however for a truck to access my back garden so I would have to do it by hand. Tell me whether I understand the sequence correctly: 1) I dig deep enough...

L-shaped shed - is it possible?

2 tons of stuff - A lot of garden tools, all the other tools, toolboxes, spare furniture, shelving units, car parts including a whole engine, transmission, doors, parts of the chassis, huge chest freezer filled with food. That's just things off the top of my head. I can see it go up to 2000...

L-shaped shed - is it possible?

Hi big-all, that's correct. However following the advice of PaulUszak in terms of roof apex placement, the corner of the the apex would be in a proximity closer than 1 meter from the boundary.

L-shaped shed - is it possible?

Hi all, Sorry it took me a while to reply. I was trying to reply at around 3am today but my draft wasn't saved and so I have given up and decided to do it at home. Firstly, PaulUszak and others, thank you for your amazing contribution. I thought that the idea of a shipping container is...

L-shaped shed - is it possible?

Hi folks, I'm just about to build my first very own shed. First I wanted to buy something already built, sit it on top of paving slabs and call it a day. However I live in a very windy part of Scotland at the top of a hill which doesn't help the matter. I would like to build a shed that will...

How to even out floor heights?

Hi guys, I recently renovated my kitchen. It included stripping the flooring to bare floorboards and as they were quite uneven I laid 12mm hardibacker on top of it. On top of the hardibacker I've laid underfloor heating and poured around 15mm of self levelling compound in two layers. On top of...

    Boiler room storage idea.

Hiya, My house have an almost useless room which contains mostly rubbish and boiler in the alcove. I was preparing to make it into storage space but only now I asked myself a question whether walls and floor are going to support the weight? My plan was to mount louvred panels to the longest...

    Roof moss removal.

Thanks for all your input lads. I think the possibility of crows knocking off moss is decent as I have seen few of them enjoying their time on my roof :D After all I've read from you I decided to buy some of those wire balls that keep chunky stuff from blocking the downpipe. Also, a brilliant...

    Roof moss removal.

It does make sense I suppose. I know most of body parts but never heard of derriere until I googled it just now lol. I presume the only answer is to get the tradesmen in. Thanks a lot! :-)

    Roof moss removal.

I'm genuinely surprised. I thought as a tradesman you would be doing everything in your house yourself? Or am I wrong? I'm only a DIYer, my full time occupation has nothing in common with trade.

    Roof moss removal.

I had no idea! I was certain somebody mentioned that excessive moss allows for moisture to remain longer on the roof, therefore causing deterioration of roof tiles. The website you've provided states that moss should be removed if it's blocking gutters and in my case gutters are completely...

    Roof moss removal.

Hi guys, I was wondering what's the safest way for a DIY'er to remove moss from the roof tiles? It's a two storey mid terrace house, one side is perfectly clean as it's constantly blazed with sun (well, if there is any sun left in Scotland) but the other is completely covered in moss. I have an...

Mixed up cables when changing 2 gang 1 way light switch.

Yes there is one earth wire and I'm afraid there are single wires poking through. Why is this a bad sign? House was built in the early 60s. Consumer unit looks like it's from medieval times at least!
