    Foundations lower on one side

I did say 'foolishly'. It's not like I'm buying in concrete regularly to know what they do/don't do. Mistakes were made, and I know for next time... Not that I plan and doing this again. My main focus is on moving forward and how to rectify it.

    Foundations lower on one side

Thanks for all the responses. I'll have another chat with my builder about it. The plans show a course of trench blocks to ground level with engineering bricks up to dpc. Footings were inspected before the concrete was poured. I foolishly assumed the people doing the pour would ensure...

    Foundations lower on one side

I haven't spoken to the bco about this yet, no. Do you think it's something they would advise on? It's over a span of 8m so it's not really that noticeable until you actually get a level on it. I wondered why not masonry but I'm just going on the suggestion of the builder. Thanks for all...

    Foundations lower on one side

No, but the inside footprint is level (more or less) with the top of the foundation ready for the sub base and slab.

    Foundations lower on one side

Hi all, happy Easter! I am embarking on a sort of self-build extension. I've dug the footings and had them filled with concrete but the surface isn't quite level - one corner is about 90mm lower than the other. My builder had suggested I put some shuttering around and fill with more concrete...

How do I fit this concealed shower head

Hi, I have brought a concealed shower for a bathroom refit. I have installed showers before but this is the first time installed a concealed system. It's a dual head one and I'm struggling to understand how I secure the shower head. It seems the bracket is supposed to clamp from behind, but I...

    Critique my sewer plans

Thanks jeds. There are separate plans for a soakaway for the gutters/down pipes. I only added the gully's in to take the grey waste from the kitchen/utility/bath etc, but decided to bring these underground instead of through the wall and into the top of the gully.

    Critique my sewer plans

I would have thought that more individual runs would be better than combined ones? Less impact if a blockage occurs? If necessary I could combine the second gully with the pipe coming from the second stack, that would reduce the number of individual runs to the IC. I could also add an access...

    Critique my sewer plans

Thanks. I'll go for 1 in 40 then, plenty of depth to allow for it. My main concern was that some of the connections might not be allowed without some additional access points. Is gully 1 required? I'd like to do away with it, but figured it would be required for access?

    Critique my sewer plans

Thanks John D. Well if the fall is the only criticism, then I'll take it. I can work with that! 1:40 would be a steeper gradient, right? Sure I could do that. Surely a steeper gradient would mean tighter bends though, right? Or is the intention to give the waste more momentum?

    Critique my sewer plans

Hi All, I'm installing some new soil pipes as part of a new extension. I've attached my plans and I'm just wondering if I should change anything before I start installing it all and then arrange for my BCO to come and inspect. Fall will be 1:70 but this isn't really shown in the pictures. The...

Remedial work to damaged water main

Yeah, I did run the taps for a bit and the water was a bit dirty, I thought I'd maybe burst the pipe somewhere, but after monitoring the meter, there was no change so I figured I'd just dislodged 60 years of build-up. I live in Lincoln though so I'm used to limescale! Tbh I had seen this, but...

    Foundations and new soil stack

Thanks for the direction - never thought to check here. Seems I need to concrete them in up to the bottom of the foundations!

    Foundations and new soil stack

Yes it is, the bottom of the concrete is 450mm below ground level. Thanks

    Foundations and new soil stack

Morning all, I'm putting in a new soil stack and had planned to have the rest bend at a depth of about 750mm, however the foundations themselves are only 450mm deep, so this would put the bend below (and next to) the foundations of the building. Is this a problem? Will the new pipes be at any...

Remedial work to damaged water main

Not sure if this is a building question or a plumbing one, so apologies is this is the wrong place. I've damaged my mains water pipe (15mm copper) with an excavator whilst trenching for a new fowl sewer. Through sheer luck only, I've not ruptured the pipe. I had planned to replace it with...

    Soakaway pond/reed bed

Nobody has really stated it as a requirement (yet), but I know I won't be allowed to drain the rainwater into the foul sewer. It's not really a pond - I just said "pond like". I see these all the time for new estates, in fact there is one just down the road from me for 5 houses, but obviously...

    Soakaway pond/reed bed

Thanks! That's really helpful... Care to elaborate?

    Soakaway pond/reed bed

Hi all, I'm building an extension, and one of the requirements for the rainwater is to go to a soak away. Rather than an underground soakaway, could I leave it open and create a sort of 'pond like' soak away with some reeds and similar plants? Would something like that be allowed? If I did...

Gas pipe at or just below ground level under driveway

Hi, I started digging down against the front corner of the house wall today to install a fence/gate post... and found the gas pipe just a few cm below the surface of the hardcore under the gravel driveway. I checked where I expected the pipe to enter the house, and sure enough, there it was...
