    What’s wrong with my roof?

Hi all, I’ve had leaking in my boiler down to my staircase during recent rainfall and had a builder come round and it may have been an issue with the flue pipe in the boiler. However, since it was only leaking during rainfall I suspected the roofing. I had another builder round who took one...

Bathroom leaking down to dining room every so often

Apologies for the late response. We called in a plumber as we were still unsure, but our plasterboard is definitely getting replaced due to the stain. Thank you for your recommendation.

Apologies for the extremely late response. That could definitely be a possibility. We still weren’t able to figure it ourselves so we’ve had to call in a plumber, hopefully it will be resolved

Possible pipe damage under floor near boiler

Hi everyone, I am unsure what’s happened as an area under the floor near the boiler in my upstairs room is damp. I suspect that the pipe underneath the floor was damaged when furniture was moved around recently, but I’m unsure if that’s related. There’s also been an awful smell ever since the...

Bathroom leaking down to dining room every so often

Hi everyone, Every so often water comes down the ceiling into our dining room. Right above the dining room is our toilet. I was wondering what needs fixing. I haven’t been able to see what’s going on because it’s every so often so I never know when it comes next to inspect. It leaves a dirty...

    Thermosiphon Shower Query

Thank you for your response and link I’ll have a read. Yes that is the plan! It will be made using hopefully recycled parts and anything lying around. It will be for a village so we have been told to keep the budget as low as possible. The set up has mostly taken inspiration from this video...

    Thermosiphon Shower Query

Hi everyone, I am doing an internship with a great organisation and the project I’m doing is a non electric shower. I’m going to present the plan of a thermosiphon shower. As I understand a thermosiphon should only have one tank. I watched a video of an off grid shower and it looked like it...

    Rebuilding Conservatory Foundations and Floor

Thanks for your response I’ll look into that as we don’t seem to have any vents at all. Will drilling holes into the bricks be ok as I’m not too sure how to put air bricks. Or do you have a different suggestions

    Rebuilding Conservatory Foundations and Floor

Hi everyone, Just wanted to see if there’s anything else I need to buy to rebuild my conservatory floor. It’s an old conservatory so it’s all windows and the floor was rotting with mold so we’ve taken that off. I’m planning to just buy wooden members and replace them and put in plywood panels...

    Conservatory floor all mouldy

Thanks for the reply. Will get rid of the flooring. Not much is known about the conservatory as it came with the house. The previous owners seemed to have no problem with the conservatory as it was liveable (furniture and appliances in the conservatory) but we’ve never been able to make it a...

    Conservatory floor all mouldy

A boiler surveyor accidentally broke the chip board in the conservatory and when I lifted the floor, saw the amount of floor damage there is. What should I do now? Also would be helpful if advice on installing new layers of flooring (such as a new membrane etc- if it’s needed) is given. I’m...

Planning to put plaster skim on under stairs ceiling, could there be asbestos here

Thanks for the detailed advice, will do exactly that. This is under the stairs but the door to it is at the back of the stairs, rather than the usual side of the stairs.
