Insulation between bathroom false ceiling and loft

Hey, So I'm just looking at the best way to insulate the bathroom of my bathroom, if in fact it needs doing. I have removed the old plasterboard during renovation, there is a good size (50-60cm) false ceiling gap. I am fitting spotlights approved for IP44, I also have an Manrose inline fan...

Joists 'on a kilter' - levelling would create lip to room - what to do?

Great, thanks. As it's a bathroom there is going to have to be a gap under the door for airflow in any case (I need to take some material off of the bottom of the door), so there should end up being plenty of clearance!

Joists 'on a kilter' - levelling would create lip to room - what to do?

Right, I think I've got it, so I can have it slope from the right side to the left, but need to get an evenly supported slope from one side to the next by sistering the joists as per your photo?

Joists 'on a kilter' - levelling would create lip to room - what to do?

Hi Bonni, I'm not sure I totally understand - the existing floorboards were removed completely, they had been cut into many times before, many were split and virtually all of them warped in one way or another. The plan was to lay 18mm ply directly on top of the joists. If I am following you...

Joists 'on a kilter' - levelling would create lip to room - what to do?

Hi, So got a little bit of a problem that I'm not sure how to tackle. I'm renovating my bathroom, the floors been up for ages and I decided to lay a new subfloor as the old planks had had it. I am not checking the level of the joists and whilst I expected them to be a bit out as it's an old...

Chimney breast looks like it's resting on compromised support

Yea, it does, and on both side of the breast, I wasn't sure if this was too serious - but thinking about it there is a bath meant to be going on top of these very joists which was on the other side of the room on much less abused joists before... so I'll defo mention that to the builders who fix...

Chimney breast looks like it's resting on compromised support

I have just updated the first post to make it clearer. However, I almost want to laugh at your reply because it is much much worse than that. I'm going to get someone in asap to look at this and cease work on the rest of the bathroom until it's safe.

What D&D insulatiuon to use on bathroom walls

Thanks, I have looked into it a little more, and the wording seems to suggests the 'wall' is the 'thermal element' that requires regulation if it's more than 50%, and it is (a you say) only where it is practical to do so. The bathroom wall is also no where near 50% (or 25 for that matter) of the...

Chimney breast looks like it's resting on compromised support

I'm guessing this may be one of those thing thats hard to tell from a few photos. I think I will have to get it inspected by someone to see if the support needs redoing.

What D&D insulatiuon to use on bathroom walls

So are there no regulations I have to follow or adhere to for a self renovation like this? I had watched a YT vid where the guy sad his local building reg guy said if you are insulating more than 50% of a room during renovation then you need to get it signed off (maybe I (or he) got this wrong...

Chimney breast looks like it's resting on compromised support

Hi, So i was looking at this today as i wanted to notch this myself, but thought it looked like a bad idea as the support i wanted to notch was for a chimney that had been removed on the floor below. This lead me to notice that it looks like the whole support is resting on one tiny bit of...

What D&D insulatiuon to use on bathroom walls

Hi to you all, long time lurker here but first time poster. I am renovating my 1st floor bathroom and looking to insulate the two brick walls, one exterior (cavity brick, no cavity insulation) and one party. Although I was initially thinking of using stud work I am now thinking it would be...
