    Can I remove Old lintel.

Gonna touch on this again, there were bricks (well made imperial sized) above the lintel. Which were clear of the joists on both sides. The lintel itself goes into the wall by roughly 40mm, the bricks are about 80mm width. It also looks like it has been packed after the load bearing wall went...

    Drymix under paving slabs?

Hi folks. Onto the bottom end of the sloped, gravel covered 'garden'. Under the old slabs is at least 15cm of drymix. Underneath the gravel, which I've just discovered is MORE drymix. Why would anyone want so much of this? With the garden having a diagonal slope towards the fence. I want to...

    Can I remove Old lintel.

No joists touching it. The lintel goes into a wall. Which looks like it was poorly packed to fill the gaps.

    Can I remove Old lintel.

Image from outside. The wall to the right is a supporting wall. The lintel sits above that cupboard door.

    Can I remove Old lintel.

Hi folks. I'm removing an old brick cupboard in the kitchen. The cupboard walls themselves are not supporting anything. Although it has a concrete lintel that goes into a supporting wall at 90 degree angle. (Image attached). Does anyone think this can be easily removed then replaced with...

    Supporting or not?

Finally got round to looking above the cupboard. Seems there is only one supporting wall. Cupboard walls aren't touching joists above, so good to knock down. Just need to be careful of the water pipe and try cut the concrete shelf, that could be part of supporting wall.

    Pipe Puzzle

Hi folks, Whilst recently in the crawl space. I've figured out why the hot water takes so long to reach the bathroom upstairs (directly above the combi). The pipes go under the utility room, across the floor (blue) and up the wall in the corner (water stop valve marked with red), around the...

    Supporting or not?

Evening all, I know this may be a very simple answer, but I have to ask. I want to knock down this old boiler cupboard in the kitchen that sits next to a dividing wall (wall sits at 90 degrees to joists). Can anyone confirm that it's not supporting, by looking at the images? I took these...

    Gap under external door.

Hi all. Our external door has a draft on one side, this is due to the seals on the underside of the door being damaged when the previous owners let the door drop. I've asked a door parts site for advice, but they think the part fitted is now obsolete. My question is, where can I find a T...

    British Gas UT2 replacement

Hi folks, The property we moved into has a British Gas UT2 Control Panel, no separate thermostat and a Ferroli combi boiler. I'm looking to install something with a bit more than 3 daily programs. Any recommendations? Can I fit a Nest Heat link? Thanks

    Gravel problems

Hi folks. The house we moved into has 20mm red chip in the back garden. I know it's unsuitable for a sub base on its own, could I mix it with a finer gravel/dust to bind it? Saving time and money, changing to Type 1? There is also poured concrete under the majority of the area. Thanks

    Drain cover

Hi folks I have this buchan trap in my garden, the area I want to monoblock. I'd like to replace the concrete lid with something more aesthetically pleasing. But can't seem to find anything. I know it needs to be vented etc. The shaft size is 360x240 (inside measurements). Could I corbel...

    Drafty window

Hi folks, The house we moved into seems to have older upvc windows. There are no adjusters on them, only top hung hinges. One hinge looks like it's been poorly installed and causes a gap in the top corner. Can I add closing wedges to tighten this or is it best to replace the hinge? Riveted...

Haven't moved in yet, so can't touch it. That is on the list. They are cast iron and do need replaced.
