Oh dear  some very passionate replies - thank you for all of them! We've managed to keep things on by resetting all plugs and switches whenever the boiler didn't fire. So we've at least kept the kids warm! BG have just been. It was in fact said valve in picture 8 (called whatever...

I'm sorry, I'm not a plumber and am learning as I go here. Just trying to keep the heating on as best I can until Thursday. Someone further up had mentioned a zone valve and google searches look just like the silver box in picture 8 on my original post

Awesome, thank you. Will check it periodically to see what it's up to

It wasn't empty, but it seemed to need some more water. It was tricky to see in the loft - it's not in an easy-reach place. We have BG coming out on Thursday, fingers crossed they can sort it

Sorry, also missed this comment! It was intermittent for a while, then totally dead yesterday. We kept tinkering with bits and it fired up about 9pm yesterday and has been working well all day today. Now, about 5pm, it was out again and I've got it going by adjusting the zone valve as above

Sorry, didn't spot this message. We topped up the small tank in the loft last night, unsure if this is what got the boiler going again, but it'a gone again this evening (see comment just now). Unsure if this could still be the problem?

Scrap that, the boiler just came back to life. I have the zone valve in "Man Open" rather than "Auto" Can I safely leave it there, or am I now a human thermostat control?

So the boiler sprang back into life last night after many more "ALT. CTRL. DELETE" and we've had heat and hot water all day. Just home now and the boiler is off again, but schedule is asking for heat, we've tried to boost manually, but nothing. In the airing cupboard there's lots of rumblings...

Thanks for replying. Any idea what it might look like? Other than the loft, which I've not made it up to yet, there's nothing else other than pipework in the house

Thank you. Will see about getting that sorted, too

Boiler is now off. Just to add to the fun, we can't use the emersion as it trips the electrics. Another thing on the long list of stuff that needs sorting out.

BG can't get here until thursday. We have standing heaters we can use until then. Would you turn power off to the boiler until they attend? It does try to fire up once an hour or so (I haven't timed it). Concerned if I leave it on, it's a potential fire risk if it's faulty

Ok, thanks. The cover is back on now that I can see there's no pressure valve. Windows and doors were open at the time too. Will get British Gas to attend then.

Right.... <googles quickly> So should that system ever need topping up?

The boiler isn't starting for heating basically. Power is on, main control in airing cupboard is on with green lights. Green power light and blue light to show "pilot is on" on the boiler itself are off. It tries to fire up sometimes but stops quickly. I assumed low pressure. Have got the front...

    Worcester Greenstar 15ri Pressure

Hi all I've read FAQ no 16 and sadly the photos won't load for me, BUT I don't think my boiler uses a key anyway. Boiler is about one-billionty years old, with lots of add-on upgrades and repairs to the heating system before we moved in, so my challenge in locating an external filling loop is...
