Hi all

I've read FAQ no 16 and sadly the photos won't load for me, BUT I don't think my boiler uses a key anyway.

Boiler is about one-billionty years old, with lots of add-on upgrades and repairs to the heating system before we moved in, so my challenge in locating an external filling loop is fun!

Anyway, photos attached of what I can see. Boiler in kitchen, hot water tank and main control in airing cupboard upstairs.
I can't find bendy silver pipes anywhere, have also checked under sink cupboard.

The pipes under the boiler are boxed in, I'll open the boxing up if needs be, of course, but we've had the system drained and refilled before, so it can't be there.

Any clues on where it could be, based on the photos? Thanks!

You don't have a sealed system so no pressure gauge/safety valve/expansion vessel or filling loop.
Instead you have a traditional open vented system with a small feed & expansion cistern in the loft.

Yes, as per @Gasguru, you have a regular boiler, with tanks in the loft. What makes you think you need to top the pressure up?

The boiler isn't starting for heating basically.
Power is on, main control in airing cupboard is on with green lights.
Green power light and blue light to show "pilot is on" on the boiler itself are off.
It tries to fire up sometimes but stops quickly.

I assumed low pressure. Have got the front panel of the boiler off and there's no pressure guage to give me a clue.

Put the front panel back on (it forms an essential part of the safety system), ensure it is fitted exactly and call a gas eng. in.
Modern boilers can produce significant carbon monoxide especially when not maintained or faulty..and you are reliant on the boiler being a sealed box to save you.

There is no pressure to top up...

Ok, thanks. The cover is back on now that I can see there's no pressure valve. Windows and doors were open at the time too.

Will get British Gas to attend then.

BG can't get here until thursday. We have standing heaters we can use until then.

Would you turn power off to the boiler until they attend? It does try to fire up once an hour or so (I haven't timed it). Concerned if I leave it on, it's a potential fire risk if it's faulty

It would be better to turn it off...
Have you tried the immersion heater to give you hot water (the switch on the left wall next to the cylinder)..it will take a couple of hours to heat up.

Boiler is now off.

Just to add to the fun, we can't use the emersion as it trips the electrics. Another thing on the long list of stuff that needs sorting out.

Quite possibly a faulty element, or water ingress into the element.

See if you can find the boiler pump, it is not inside the boiler and it is not in your pics , sounds like that is stuck or failed

Any idea what it might look like?
Other than the loft, which I've not made it up to yet, there's nothing else other than pipework in the house

Actually, it's this isn't it? ( i have no idea why it's been fitted upside down)
