Just leaving exposed boards as final finish will sand and oil. Might be a little tricky to get the strip to fit nicely in the middle mind. See how my cutting goes.
Thanks for the reply.
Yep I can live with it.
Not sure if I have called it the right thing but it was basically a bit of timber that didn’t sit flush and stuck up about an inch either side . And rested on the floorboards rather than inbetween them
Hello everyone. Happy friday.
I am looking for advice on how to finish this strip between two exposed floorboard rooms…
There used to be a raised tradition strip that was a trip hazard. I would ideally like to keep the new transition level with the floor.
I was thinking to trim the edges of...
thank you very much, can you advise on using self levelling. will I need to shutter the sides as the current hearth level is flush with the floor. or is there another way
thanks both. how would you sort the edges out? where the hearth joins the floor there is a cm gap.... some kind of beading cover it ? overhang the tiles slightly just to cover the gap (its only 1cm).
any links to a suitable self level would be great as there is a lot of options. I haven't used...
Hello,
I have knocked out a fireplace (with great help from this group). It will only be decorative. The builders opening will all be boarded and skimmed. I would like to tile the old hearth (removing it is not an option, and neither is keeping it- drill holes).

I will In fill the whole with bricks.
Floor boards have been lifted and no rot is present.
Many thanks for your reply.

Hello
After taking up a floorboard over a springy section of floor I have found 3 partially rotten joists ( last 4 inches or so) and most rotten of all the beam they sit on (i believe called a sill beam?).
I am thinking to use bower beams to rectify and repair the joist ends. Any advice...
Hi Harry thanks for the reply- this makes sense.
For the back wall it slopes down where the batten the joists sits on is loose. I was thinking to pack between the joist/batten ? And refix the joists to the batten
Do you have any advice? I have read slate was originally used to do this but...
Oldbutnotdead,
It is a very gentle slope.
It sounds about right that the dwarf wall has stayed where it is and the rest of the house has settled.
Now to decide whether to take all the floor up and try level
