Worcester 28CDi Compact - what penalty for downsizing?

The cdi compact is the only worcester combi that will fit in a standard depth cupboard. I have fitted five know and really like them. Very good quality and all the whistles and bells. Worcester still don't know what to do with the si and I junior range of boilers. My guess is rebadge the si as...

Looking to start up on my own?

I am married with two kiddies and a mortgage etc. Lots of young lads who live at home setup in the trade, new van, full of stickers, box full of paper qualifications, catchy name, they undercut my quotes like a butcher as they only need 2 or 3 hundred a week to be a viable business with such low...

I want to condensate the plume from my boiler

Sorry I'm over 50. Degrees Fahrenheit not centigrade. US old guys who know nothing after 35 years as a gas service engineer.

    width of gas intake pipes

If the instructions say the pipe must be 22mm then anything less would have to be labelled as sub standard. I often run a new 22 pipe and leave the old 15 pipe in and connect them together below the boiler for a bit more gas supply I lose loads of quotes when I tell people it needs a new feed...

I want to condensate the plume from my boiler

Yes there is no heat left in it to condense, it's only about 50c , the same as the breath you exhale. The only solution is to use a plume diversion kit specific to the boiler.

Worcester Combi Boiler/Radiator Problems - Drayton Digistat

Yep, these are great but over the last few years the only ones I trust now are the Honeywell cm921 or cm927. I use Worcester boilers and fit the Honeywell instead of the Worcester timers as I think they are vastly superior.

    eon home repair rubber band

Had a phone call from Eon today trying to sell me a boiler contract. Didn't tell them I was a Gas Service Engineer and listened for 10 mins before he said "they'll fit a rubber band on the valve near the boiler, to enable full thermostatic control of the system". When I challenged this...

Why do you accept cheap boilers?

I go by the theory, if Baxi combis had the hot water diaphraghm fitted at the back where you cannot get to it we would call it the worst boiler ever, as it is at the front and the easiest £60 repair you will ever do I think its a great boiler.(i have heating but no hot water), round like a shot...

    Gas cooker connection

The problem is that you cannot install a second hand appliance unless the instructions are there and all that. This legislation was pushed for by gas appliance manufacturers in the 80's. So I simply do not fit them. You would not believe the "shop soiled" but new **** that some people get given...

    Notification after payment??

Just sticking my oar in here. We had an extention built five years ago and have not bothered getting the completion certificate yet from building control. There is no time limit and we will do it if we come to sell the house. So why do we have to rush home and notify, when the time limit seems...

radiators-is ther any difference in quality or all the same.

I use plumb center's own brand of rads. really good quality finish, its a round top upside down with panels on, so no sharp edges on show. They sell them at exactly the same price trade or not and they will have one on display in the branch and a fixed price list to take away.

    Rusty bathroom radiator

This is a common occurance. The warm moist air in a bathroom will condense onto a cooler radiator in the summer when the radiator is off and run down to the bottom to form drops that rust through from the outside. get a rad with a quality paint finish, and when you visit friends look at the...

Balanced flue will be inside conservatory

depends on money as ever. I only fit worcester, paid £1,400 just for the boiler and flue today for a 42cdi combi trade inc vat. can get a boiler for £400. A combi may be no dearer than a replacement conventional boiler as they cost the same to buy and if you are moving it its hard to say.

IS anyone familiar with Primatic cylinders?

Great for scrap though, they are really heavy even when empty. Biggest problem after a drain off is the time it takes for the hot water to run clear. It can take days. Dont drain off primatics now, spend ages waiting around.

Salus RT500RF Programmable Room Stat Questions

I have fitted lots of these in the last year and they are now failing. Boiler on and green light on reciever lit but no demand from the timer unit. must have changed ten so far last one fitted feb-removed april.

    Flux

The underlying thing surely is what type of flux. If using a type such as BESCO which does NOT self clean then you MUST flux the pipe and fitting after cleaning with wire wool to prevent corrosion in the short time until the joint is soldered. Using self cleaning LACO type flux negates the need...

    flueless gas fires

Oh the joys of seeing the old Main Ripon screwed to the wall in the hallway, the mysterious yellow glow behind the frosted glass, never getting a definate answer as to whether or not they needed a vent, and having your dreams shattered as you find out the burner is just a piece of half inch iron...

can anybody explain the tech.....gravity HW pumped CH boiler

who cares? the pump must steal some, if not all of the hot water from the gravity circs but the two will work in tandem. The heat exchanger is just a box with four connections. If you are clever enough to worry about connections to a gravity system, you must be clever enough to realise it is the...
