    Faulty mid position valve?

So.. H only - power to grey and white H & HW - power to white HW only - no power to white or grey so sticky spindle, or faulty spring or maybe a stiff motor as those power sequences seem ok?

    Faulty mid position valve?

Thanks everyone. This is quite interesting. I'm in several minds.. On the one hand the valve always stops dead on M position when moving from H to W and then if I move it manually towards W it will stay wherever I release it which would I guess be consistent with a stalled motor (power on...

    Faulty mid position valve?

It requires a fair amount of force to get the lever over to W, but once it is over there it stays there so the spindle could be a little stiff. The lever stays still at either H or M under the normal operation, so H for heating only, and M for all other options, including HW only. Is doesn't...

    Faulty mid position valve?

Thanks for the info. There's no black push button on the side - I think its an older model that didn't have a lift off actuator. I'll try and disassemble and see if the spindle is stuck or what's going on with the spring.

    Faulty mid position valve?

When the hot water comes on my radiators get hot. Prime suspect is the ACL Drayton Lifestyle 679H340-30L0 mid position valve. I can see that the little black position indicator in the right will move between the H and M positions but will not make it over as far as the W side. When the hot...

    Bending 4mm Ply

Hi Folks, I am making a bed for my daughter and want to use 4mm ply for the ends which are going to be slightly bowed. The amount will be approx 90 degrees with a radius of about 46 cm. Is this do-able? Or can anyone offer any better suggestions for what material to use cheers, Ollie

Which Graphics Card for Lomita 010116 Motherboard?

Yes but for that price point you gould be getting anywhere from an overpriced 8500GT up to an underpriced 8600GT. What kind of games do you want to play OP? If its the latest 3D games or similar then you should be looking to make sure that whatever graphics card you buy supports at least...

Which Graphics Card for Lomita 010116 Motherboard?

Am I being dense or is that website trying to get people to part with cash to buy a graphics card upgrade without even mentioning the GPU chipset? Seems to be not enough information to make me want to part with £75 (Not that I'm suggesting that was what you were advising Softus).

    large media transfer

Novatech own branded one £41.13 inc vat (OK so I rounded to £40 :D ) http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/products/a787x1y0z1p0s0n0m0 You may well be right but as a 'disposable' transfer medium I think I'd take a punt on the cheapest, wouldn't do the same for a PSU or more important PC...

    large media transfer

Also... Borrow a USB DVD Writer, or USB external hard drive if you know anyone that has one? Depends on how many GB you have or if you want to do it again in the future, maybe.. 4GB USB memory sticks are ~£22 if you shop around 8GB ~£40

TRANSFERRING OLD VYNAL RECORDS TO CD DISC

I have copied vinyl to PC with XP Home with reasonable success and no cost by simply using windows movie maker to record sound from the sound card line in. I had my turntable plugged into my mixer then used a twin phono to 4.5mm jack to connect to the line in port of the sound card. I then...

    Chicken pox

I believe not. I had to make similar enquiries when my wifes, sisters flatmate ( phew ) contracted chicken pox and we had to decide whether she (the sister) could then have any contact with our newly born daughter - she had previously had the pox. A couple of calls to NHS direct later and we...

Squashed/misshaped copper pipes (Fitting mixer shower)

I'm no plumber so have no idea if this would work but if you were to get some wooden dowel of the same diameter as the internal diameter of the 15mm pipe then lathe/cut a taper onto the end of it for the first 10mm or so could you gently ease that into the end of the pipes to reshape them...

    A bit of code

You need it as a script or would a small executable do (C++ i can do, scripting not so much)? Could probably knock you up a small executable today although extensive testing on it would be tight. Let me know if you are interested in me having a crack by about 4ish (I reckon it'll take about...

    Putting Two Unvented Cylinders together

Just a thought... I guess that heating 420 litres of water rather than 320 will cost you anually in bills (maybe an issue), and will take longer to heat up (probably of no consequence).

    Fixing through tile into plasterboard

The toggle fixings wont work (I have tried them in the past) as the gap behind the board is never big enough to pass the fastening through :x I'll have a look in to the others and see if they are 'shallow' enough to get away with. In past I have used the self drilling, tappnig type...

    Fixing through tile into plasterboard

I have a utensil rack/hooks that I want to fit above the hob under the extractor which fixes via 2 screws. The walls are dry lined with minimal gap between board and blocks (maybe 1/2 inch) then tiled. What is the best method of fixing this rack to the wall? Can i use standard wall plugs as...
