    Extending a ring main

Well i have a decent multi metre so if the guy doesn't pop in tonight i will give it a test with the power off of course

    Extending a ring main

I have had a look at the cable and it is a wide conduit so thankfully you can see the side of the cable and that it is not damaged and a good distance away from the hole. I was hoping that i could find out if i could have the work done by adding a pici as i have been waiting on two electricians...

    Extending a ring main

Thankfully the wall is plastered thermolight blocks so there should enough there. just out of interest as i wish to have the two single sockets removed and if the wires are part of the final ring circuit then would it be possible to have an inline breaker like the sort you see above hand...

    Extending a ring main

Can you tell me how an electrician would test for this and does it involve taking up any floorboards e.t.c the house was built in 1986 and it has an old style consumer unit with fuses.

    Extending a ring main

Sorry about the photos i didn't expect them to be that small. the red lines are the routes that the current cables take which i presume are not that great because some are diagonal.

    Extending a ring main

I am currently in the process of redecorating and fitting a new kitchen but as i would like to move the sink and add a few more sockets i would like to know if the work i would like doing can be done. I have two single sockets that are fed by two wires (ring main?) and what looks to be a...

    Patio joint compound

no offence buddy but that is the worse thing you can do with concrete riven slabs, if you brush dry mix over it the slabs will stain like crazy and in effect be ruined. The only way to use mortar is to use a firm mix (not wet) and point it like brick work hence the reason why i have decided to...

So they should be ok with my type of window as they have a friction stay top and bottom? Thanks for the help so far, i didn't expect anyone to answer this one :D

    Gap on uPVC window

I have recently noticed that one of our windows has a gap between the inner seal that is quite large and is allowing air in from outside. After inspecting the other windows in the house they all seem to have a gap in the same place which is towards the middle of the window which in my opinion...

    Double glazed units misting-up.

If the misting is inside the units i would guess the seals have gone on them, if its just on the glass surface then its most likely water marks so give it a clean with some vinegar.

    Resurfacing drive

I currently have a Tarmac driveway that is showing its age, the surface is becoming worn and patchy but to be fair it has been down 25 years. The base layer is still perfect and there are hardly any dips so i would like to get it resurfaced, i have no idea how much this is likely to cost so i...

Adding a spur to an existing socket

Yes it looks like its radial, the fuse for the downstairs sockets is 30A and after popping a socket off thats under the CU i found just one cable running into it. I am presuming that a RCD 30mA double socket would be ok to fit on the spur that i am going to take off and would provide enough safety?

Adding a spur to an existing socket

looks like a 15A to me but i shall have to check it tomorrow, there are two 30A, two 15A & two 5A, who ever wrote inside the cover made a few mistakes as a few things are crossed out and the writing is not very clear at all  . As for the previous spur it was not inside the wall, it...

Adding a spur to an existing socket

There was a spur on it before but the extra socket was outside of the small room so i removed it, as far as i am aware the lights are on a ring so i would expect the sockets to be the same.

Adding a spur to an existing socket

I have a single socket that i would like to take a spur off as our storage under the stairs is the other side of the studded wall and i would like to put the wireless printer under there, at the moment the socket is used for the TV e.t.c Would this be ok? the house is a 1986 build

    Grunfos pump replacement

all i could find was U611 :? While we are still on the subject should i replace the valves aswell, i know that they don't work properly anymore and i expect that it shouldn't be much more than just hack sawing the olives off and installing the new valves and pump.

    Grunfos pump replacement

yep its 130mm, checked between the cut off valves ( that dont work  ) and its 13cm. Just out of curiosity can you find out how old the pump is? the only numbers i can find is on the kite mark which says 1971 but the house was built in 1986.

    Grunfos pump replacement

can you buy the spacers of the shelf?. I take it the alpha is quite a bit more expensive so how long does it take to regain the extra cost in energy savings.
